The CIA helps to organize, train and support the SAVAK, one of the most vicious and brutal secret-police organizations in the world
The Shah and SAVAK brutally suppress any moderate political opposition in the country for 25 years, leaving only the Ayatollahs
The CIA attempts to overthrow the Iranian Revolution after the Ayatollah Khomeini assumes power
The coup fails and the US convinces Iraq to invade to destabilize the Iranian government
The Iran-Iraq war is the longest and one of the bloodiest wars of the twentieth century
The US allows and assists Iraq in obtaining large quantities of weapons from China, France, the Soviet Union and South Africa
The US assists Iraq in obtaining Chemical and biological weapons and the means to produce same
The US provides political cover to Iraq in the UN when attempts to condemn Iraqi use of WMD are floated
1,000,000+/- (about 100,000 from WMD's) Iranians are killed in the war out of a population about 40,000,000

I ain't saying that Iran is the nicest bunch of people on the planet, but if another country had done to us what we have done to them, we wouldn't like them much either. Americans have this knee-jerk reaction to Iran because of the Embassy hostage crisis and we refuse to see that a huge part of the issue between us and them is OUR fault. I don't think talking to them is going to do much good, but decades of warmongering, embargoes, sanctions and threats haven't done us much good either. I say get out and let the Middle East do what it wants, there ain't a damn thing there worth one drop of American blood or one red American cent.

P.S. GW II knew damn well Iraq had WMD's, his daddy kept the receipts

The next time you're at Deathmart, or any other store, purchasing slave labor goods from China remind yourself how it is a bad idea to talk to regimes that have terrible human rights records and who want to invade their neighbors. And I think they have a nuclear weapon or two lying around....

Careful, Path. If you want to talk about ancient Persian history you have to talk about the bad AND the good! Let me direct you to the Bible in the book of Nehemiah, chapter 2. Here we find Nehemiah (Jew for those who don't know) asking the Persian King Artaxerxes for permission to go back to Judah to rebuild the city of Jerusalem and the temple. And the king grants him permission!
