General Forrest's tactics were studied by the Nazi's and are claimed to be a foundation for the blitzkrieg as his battles were studied by the German military.  He went in fast and light with a small force in an unconventional manner.
Interesting to me that Forrest's name would come up.. He's a hero around here. I went to a school named for him, across the street from a monument where a little girl told him where to cross a creek.. They named the High School after her.. (Emma Sansom)..
BO is gutless.. He won't help an ally. He won't help himself. He damn sure won't help (our) nation.
He'll equivocate and apologize for being antagonistic, blaming the move on his advisers or the Pentagon (who will have acted without his authorization).. He'll say (rightly so) that the US can't afford a war, and do some sort of BS mea culpa.. Japan will buy a military machine, China and the UN will step in to broker a "peace", (aka reunification) and the whole world will realign, at which point, we will truly, no longer matter..
BO could maybe stand with the South if it meant he could nationalize everything and get to his end game. That's the only way I could see him act like he has a nationalistic core, albeit at somebody else's expense..

We'll see soon enough..
With friends like these, who needs hallucinations!..

Forest's tactics were pretty much standard cavalry tactics of the day.
The most famous description of his tactical thinking was "Get there firstest, with the mostest".
Speed of maneuver has always been the hall mark of the better Generals in history.
Forest may be well known in the South, but in the Northern papers he could not compare to the tenacity of Jacksons "Foot Cavalry",
or the audacity of Moseby's Rangers.

Plus there is that unfortunate little KKK thing. I admire the man, but I do like Moseby.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_S._Mosby

Mosby is famous for carrying out a daring raid far inside Union lines at the Fairfax County courthouse in March 1863, where his men captured three Union officers, including Brig. Gen. Edwin H. Stoughton. Mosby wrote in his memoirs that he found Stoughton in bed and roused him with a "spank on his bare back." Upon being so rudely awakened the general indignantly asked what this meant. Mosby quickly asked if he had ever heard of "Mosby". The general replied, "Yes, have you caught him?" "I am Mosby," the Confederate ranger said. "Stuart's cavalry has possession of the Court House; be quick and dress." Mosby and his 29 men had captured a Union general, two captains, 30 enlisted men, and 58 horses without firing a shot.[13][14]
