I handled a C96 pistol a few years back.  Cool...

I read that the rear sight was adjustable to 1000 meters.  I expect that probably wasn't a practical range!

W.M.D. (Karamojo)Bell, the elephant hunter always carried a C96, but he use it on natives and presumably small game. He prefered 6.5, 7, and 8 mm for elephant.

re: golden guns... years ago a friend had his STI vapor deposited with titanium nitride (TiN) which produced a golden finish.. at the Area 6 match in Ga that year when the Georgia Tech engineers in attendance heard it was TiN and not gaudy gold, they all wanted to see it

ROFL, TiN is a heck of a tough coating.
We used it on a lot of the tooling at T/C.
