Just out of curiosity, what have you guys using as to judge prices by?  I've been using the price of 7.62X39 ammo myself.  It was pretty consistant for several years there before the dumb dumb got elected.  At least where I was shopping on-line, and locally I was finding it for $4.25 a box all the time.  Once in a while it'd go on sale for a little less, but I don't remember it getting below $4.00 even.  I had also bought my Bobcat for $199 just before, and remember P22's were going for $199-$249.  The Bobcat's back down to $265 now from the $350's.

I'm thinking that it's been over a year since the start of the glut.  And 7.62 X 39's back down to $4.50 a box.  Maybe inflation has kept it where it's at for the last two months or so, and we won't see prices fall any further than where they are.   :-\

I think AK's were going for between $350-$450 on average before the start of the glut too.  And they are back at that level now.  I'm just not sure prices are going any lower than they are right now EVER again.  The bubble is burst?

$350-$550 seems like a fair price given that the gun is in good shape and the sights aren't canted. I mean, its what we all pay for our pistols and I don't hear anyone bitching about that. The AK is the Glock  of rifles, idiot proof, reliable, and good enough at 100 yards. $400-$500 seems like a fair price to me. I would like to see them cheaper (as who wouldn't) but I won't feel I'm being ripped off for a good Yugo, Russian or Norinco at that price either.

That's kinda what I'm talkin about.  New cars, food, sofa's, most everything was cheaper a year ago.  Inflation is never ending, and I don't know we're every going to see prices exactly what they used to be.  WASR's and the Saiga's are going for around $320 now.  That may be the bottom.   :-\

You can bet it isn't gonna take much to send prices flying back up again.  :(  One mention of gun laws in an Obama speach is about all it'll take.   :( :(

That's sums up my feelings as well. I'm not one of those guys that will spend 30 minutes and a gallon of gas to find it .03 cents cheaper. FQ's $400.00 to $500.00 is a good operating range for buying a good, solid AK-47 rifle today. You pick the flavor.  Bill T.

Thanks for all of the help guys and Billt I think you are right on the mark with the uncertainty of Israel and Iran.  Though I am thinking less and less that Israel will strike just yet.  BHO and his boy toys only have to say a cross word and then the price goes up.

OK...another thing.  As AK's go, what are the better to lesser quality models?  There are Chinese, Russian, Yugo, etc...what's toward the top of the heap and what is towards the bottom.?

Top, or near the top:

Arsenal

Lancaster

Poly Tech, (Chinese pre ban)

Better than most:

Yugoslavian

Bulgarian

Good, but inspect carefully for quality, straight sights, loose mag wells, etc.:

Romanian

If your a first time buyer try to take someone with you who knows the platform, and can point out things you may overlook. Most places that have favorable reputations will have a 30 day exchange period, or a 3 day examination period if ordered UPS or Fed-Ex.  Bill T.

Just to add to Biilts comment, Classic Arms has a no questions asked return policy(or so I was told by them, I have never tested it). The owner told me that if you don't like the rifle, send it back and they will send you a new one. Seems hard to beat.
