Justice Dept. Says Acorn Can Be Paid

By CHARLIE SAVAGE
Published: November 27, 2009

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department has concluded that the Obama administration can lawfully pay
the community group Acorn for services provided under contracts signed before Congress banned the government from providing funds to the group.

The department’s conclusion, laid out in a recently disclosed five-page memorandum from David Barron, the acting assistant attorney general for the Office of Legal Counsel, adds a new wrinkle to a sharp political debate over the antipoverty group’s activities and recent efforts to distance the government from it.

Since 1994, Acorn, which stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, has received about $53 million in federal aid, much of it grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for providing various services related to affordable housing.

But the group has become a prime target for conservative critics,
and on Oct. 1, President Obama signed into law a spending bill that included a provision that said no taxpayer funds — including funds authorized by previous legislation — could be “provided to” the group or its affiliates.

A Housing and Urban Development lawyer asked the Justice Department whether the new law meant that pre-existing contracts with Acorn should be broken. But in a memorandum signed Oct. 23 and posted online this week, Mr. Barron said the government should continue to make payments to Acorn as required by such contracts.

****

WTF??? Let BHO pay them out of his own pocket!!! Are you kidding me?????

Conservatives have been targeting ACORN???? How about law-abiding Americans targeting a corrupt org...

These bastards!!!

I now have to take the profanity exemption from posting further...

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

What I originally posted here was mostly fury.
The fact remains that if the people of this country continue to tolerate the conduct of the junta of Chicago communists and crooks currently dishonoring the White house then they deserve the results.

This is one of your dumbest statements to date TAB.
Does that mean that extortion victims have to keep paying because they had a binding agreement with the Mafia ?
What part of "They are engaged in a pattern of racketeering and election fraud " do you not understand ?  ::)
It's not legislation that starts anything, it's legislation that cuts the Govt. ties to an crooked organization, the acts of Vote fraud in 35 states over 8 years make any agreements or contracts void.

Look at it in a diffrent light.

lets just say that you hire me to do something to your house, we sign a contract.  saying you will pay me XXXX amount for Y work.   If the work was completed to the terms of the contract, you should pay up.

Now it makes me sick that they are giving them a dime, but if the contract was legal at the time of signing and the "work" was completed.  then they need to pay up.  I don't know the details about what agrement they had and frankly I don't give a damn.

Last time I did contract work, I didn't run a whore house using my client resources.

He's right TAB, If you get busted for reinvesting the profits into your crack dealership the customer is perfectly within his rights (and the law) to immediately sever all ties with you. If he doesn't it raises questions about HIS involvement. Was it really YOUR crack dealership, or were you providing deniability for HIM.

This is BS. Using tax payers money to pay for liberals to sign up crack heads and get them to push a dirt bag criminal loving liberal agenda. Sounds like the public school system. Hope and change. I hope I have enough change in my pocket when these meat heads are done to put gas in my tank to drive to vote this turd out of office.

It's the modern method of stuffing the ballot box. thats why they sue to prevent checking citizenship, the illegals coming here for the welfare vote democrat.
This is one example of why I say the electoral process is broken and needs to be fixed by REAL Americans at gun point.
For the last 2 presidential elections ACORN has been charged with fraud in more than 20 states.
Last election we had club wielding Black Panthers intimidating Voters in Philly.
States being prevented from  keeping illegals from voting,
And, when all else fails, do like Stuart Smalley (or whatever his name is ) and just keep demanding recounts until you get the result you want, even if it takes 6 months.
Of course the Democrats know all the tricks, they have been engaged in corrupt politics longer than the Republican party has existed. You ever notice the most crooked machines in corrupt cities are always Democrat ? Tammany Hall in NY, Chicago since before Capone, New Orleans.
Wait and see what happens in '10 and '12.
