Ksail, I had the same thought - where was their situational awareness? Apparently going over some sort of paperwork before their shift, but still, in uniform and in public. I bet at least one of them had their backs to the door too, all heads down over their computers. Two never even got up, one did barely, the fourth struggled with the shooter to the door before collapsing.
The dept. is apparently fairly new, as all 4 had joined when the force in Lakewood was formed 3 years ago. I noticed rapid growth from nothing to 100 officers - wondered about what that meant. Our whole county has only 120 deputies for 1700 square miles plus the jail, court baillifs, paper serving, etc.
