I've got an XDM9 and I can say it's a fun gun that shoots good but I haven't thought of ccw with it. Also after the initial fun factor wore off, it's sat locked up.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

The XDM has the interchangeable back-straps and a match grade barrel.  However, as mentioned, the size options are limited.  There is also an issue with supply.  The XD is readily available but many dealers have very limited stock of the XDM.

If its the 26, buy and buy now, IF you like the grip. Its about $25-$50 below market and a great shooter.

Fixed it for ya.  ;)

I think very highly of the Glock 26 (sub compact 9mm). Its my everyday CCW and it is by far the best of any of the Glocks out there. Its uber reliable and very concealable.

My Review here:

$500 is a very far price..... if you search hard enough you might be able to get one for as low as $450, but the most common price point you will see these at is $500-$550.

Size has darn little to do with concealability if you carry IWB . all you have to cover is the grip, the rest of it is inside your pants.

Tom is exactly right, I have carried a full size 1911 for several years now and have had no problems with concealment as long as the right holster is used. Mine is here.....http://www.comp-tac.com/product_info.php?products_id=61. I have one of these for my new to me XD45 Tactical  ;D as well, and I am quite happy with the concealability of this set-up.

But most important, always remember to dress around the gun, don't select the gun due to the way you dress.

Springfield Armory has just released an XD(M) with a 3.8 inch barrel.  They have it up on their website now.  It should be very comparable in size to the regular XD 4" service model, although I think the grip is just a slight bit longer.
Springfield seems to release stuff without preamble sometimes.  I wonder what they will have at shot show this year.
