Seeking advice for 10/22 magazines
« on: December 01, 2009, 09:58:04 AM »
Anyone here have advice for me on the best (reliable) magazines for Ruger 10/22? I have some spare factory ones, but I am wanting high caps.
I am a member of my nation's chosen soldiery.
God grant that I may not be found wanting,
that I will not fail this sacred trust.

I have only ever owned factory myself, but I have shot a few high cap.  From what I hear from others the most important for long life is steel lips.  The other issue would be spring life, and I don't know who has good or bad there.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

I have a Butler Creek 25-round (purchased at Bass Pro).  It's clear and has stainless feed lip (some have plastic).  Every once in a while I have a failure to feed (which has *never* occurred with my factory mags)... maybe once every couple hundred rounds.  I also have heard of others having more frequent feed issues.  I think the reason is that there is a little bit of play when the magazine is inserted and the rifle may be a little sensitive to alignment of the mag.

Again, this happens so infrequently for me that I don't care--I'm glad I purchased it.

Hope this helps.

Get the steel lips ones for the high cap or they will never run right

the 10/22 receiver is very forgiving, and I own several plastic hi-cap mags. I think that the steel lips are the most critical issue....I've run thru an entire brick w/no failures.....

Rather then start a new thread I will try to revive this one.

I bought my first ever 10/22 this year and was advised to buy factory 25 round mags for more capacity. Mine were ordered from Midwayusa for around $60 for two delivered to my door, so far they work perfectly. I could have found them for a little less somewhere else but feel Larry Potterfield deserves our business for all he does for the shooting sports!

If you check reports on the net, the BX-25 is by far the most praised and the least complained about Hi-cap 10/22 magazine.  Enough said.

Want to make your Ruger BX25 magazine even more reliable?  Using a fired case from a 22 short, insert it over the follower stub that goes through the spring bushing.  This takes the excess play out of it and keeps the follower straighter.
