I have long been troubled by what is "public information" and what isn't any more. Every time there is an issue that the media decides will make them money I get my panties in a wad again. This week it is Tiger that I am following ... Who isn't ... We have no choice unless we move into a cave.
What has the media done to us through their legal actions in the name of First Amendment Rights, and their responsibility to be the "watch dogs" of the public interest. Fourth Amendment ... What good is it when the media can dig into every thing, every where without so much as a please or thank you, and they can even lie to get it. How about the Fifth Amendment and our Right against self incrimination when 911 tapes and transcripts can be printed in tabloids and broadcast over the radio. Maybe the Sixth's guarantee of an impartial jury when the media has convicted us within the first 24 hours and done a better job of closing comments than Perry Mason ever did.
Take these actions, and combine them with our current public mentality that lives for controversy, loves to see someone hurt rather than stand beside them, and would rather knock our neighbors down rather than give them a hand up and you can see why our nation is in the mess it is. The Woods family is facing a situation that could tear any family apart, and rather than standing beside them in Prayer and concern we have put a noose around Tiger's neck and are cutting notches in the legs of the stool.
Rant off on Tiger.
What good are the Constitution and the Bill of Rights if they aren't universally recognized in this Great Nation? How can we enjoy these protections if the media or busy bodies can circumvent them on behalf of the officials?
