Replacement sights selection
« on: December 04, 2009, 04:11:54 PM »
I am stuck on deciding which sights to replace on my M&P. I can order Trijicon night sights for a little over $120 from MidwayUSA or Novak fiber optic sights for about $75. For a personal defense gun would fiber optic sights be a sufficient sight in low light without the tritium inserts?

If you can't see your sights how are you going to identify what you are aiming at ? I put an FO bead on my 12 ga. if there is enough light to see the bead I should have enough to ID what I'm aiming at.

I like fiber optic sights myself.  If it's to dark for them, you won't be able to see what your shooting at anyway.  I wouldn't bother with them for a strictly indoor gun though.  But outdoors a green front, and red set on the rear are my favorite setup when a scope isn't to be used.  I've got tritium sights on both a pistol and a rifle.  While certainly "Tacticool", they're nothing special otherwise.  The tritium just isn't doing anything unless it's so dark you couldn't tell if your drawing a bead on America's most wanted, your mother-in-law, or Saskwatch.  I guess if your wearing night vision goggles they'd be the ticket.

Don't buy the XS sights until you have had a chance to try them, people seem to either love them or HATE them.
Have not tried them myself so I can't give you a more detailed suggestion.

I bought a pistol with the XS express tritium sights, poo pooed them at first glance, now that I have played with them, thumbs up, more accurate than I thought, and definitely fast. I would buy them on purpose next time.
