Tense White House exchange

Contentious exchanges between White House press secretaries and members of the media have been fairly commonplace during the past few presidential administrations.

However, the one that took place Wednesday between White House press secretary Robert Gibbs and April Ryan of American Urban Radio, in which Gibbs essentially compared Ryan to a petulant child, is among the most heated (and entertaining) in recent memory.

The testy exchange was sparked by Ryan's insistent questioning of White House social secretary Desiree Rogers' role at the recent state dinner, which has been in the headlines because of the fallout from Tareq and Michaele Salahi's "party crashing."

Ryan claimed that there have been whispers around Washington insinuating that Rogers had overstepped the traditional role of her title at the event to become the "belle of the ball," thus "overshadowing the first lady." Frustrated by Ryan's tabloid-y line of questioning, Gibbs instructed her to "calm down" and to take a deep breath," adding "I do this with my son and that's what happens."

As the press corps cringed, murmured and chuckled at Gibbs' chastising, Ryan shot back: "Don't play with me."

In the end, Gibbs recommended that they return to more weighty issues, "like 98,000 men and women in Afghanistan.

Gibbs has been coined the Pilsbury "doh" boy as far as Press Secretaries go.

When the "lemmings" in the media don't stay in line, well,....than your referred to as a child,.....

I doubt it. Rogers whose husband is a big financial player in the Chicago crowd, just wanted some flash time. She went against established protocol and even when asked, the SS Director said had someone from the WH staff been there it would have helped.

FQ, Don't get your hopes up about BO, "even a broken clock is right twice a day" is an old saying, no matter how incompetent some one is, random chance guarantees they will get it right  occasionally.

FQ, this statement reflects the very stupidity you evidence that compelled you to vote for bho in the first place.

Is bho personally out of his depth? Absolutely. But he is dangerous for that very reason. I've made a point of noting elsewhere here that I think his buffoonery, his ludicrous statements (with and without a teleprompter), his bumbling, his very empty suit-edness is a strongly desired trait, the better to destroy this country's strength and power in the world. Which of our allies, which of our (ever growing) list of enemies, will ever respect this country again after bho's act?

bho as an individual may be an empty suit, but nowhere in Revelations does it say that the anti-Christ acted alone, just that he is charismatic and sets up as a false messiah. bho is surrounded by people of appalling incompetence but also people of incredible evil. And that is where the real danger with bho lies.

You would do well to remember that, else you find yourself - in spite of current sentiments - voting for bho again in 2012 out of your hatred for all things GOP. I can just see you rationalizing voting for bho again by saying something inane like "Well, he's just an empty suit, and compared to this mope the GOP is running, bho can't be that bad!"
