Yup, less blackpowder smoke but that is made up for by the mortar/howitzer simulators and the MG42s shooting blanks.

Interesting to watch how the Garands really lock up when the reenactors jam them into the sand.  Pretty common to watch these guys sit there and kick the op rod with their boot to get them open.  Then they still continue to jam and not work.

I love the Garand but I'm sure it is suseptible to sand just like any other firearm.

Speaking of which, one of the neat things we do here in St. Joe, Michigan is the "Lest We Forget" demonstrations.  There is a D-Day beach landing and a Pacific island landing recreation.  Also a battle out at the airport.  Pretty neat stuff with some great hardware showns.  

KPR,  I've had to work the last few years when the have had this.  Do you know if they are doing it again in 2010?  I'd like to go if I can get off work.

Don't know for sure but by all accounts, attendance by reenactors and spectators was up by about 50% this year...so I would imagine it is on.

I thought the whole thing was pretty cool.  Talked for a long time to a guy fighting in a Brit division who showed me the run through on the Bren he was carrying.  He had just returned from Iraq and was hiring on to go back to be a contractor.
