Beretta 92FS Vs. 96G
« on: December 19, 2009, 05:27:07 PM »
I recently purchased a used Beretta 92FS (9mm) and was comparing it to my 96G (40 S&W). The frames appeared identical, size and looks. So I took the slides off of both and switched them, and, shock, surprize, the mated up perfectly. Then I was thinking that the difference must be in the mag/magwell. Long story short, they also interchanged. Now my question; Can these be swapped and live fired, obviously matching the correct caliber to the barrel? What about the slides? I didn't try and swap barrels in slide, and I'm thinking the bolt face/ejector would be different. Just aspiring to be more knowledgable.  ;D

I'm pretty sure that the frames are the same.  The slide and barrels are the only real difference.  Be sure and keep the slides and barrels matched otherwise you have problems feeding and extracting.

There isn't any difference in the frames between calibers but the slide/barrels are specific.  Only use the top end as a complete assembly!  The FS and G slides are also cut SLIGHTLY different due to the safety detent on the FS.  The 92 barrel might fit in the 96 slide but I WOULDN'T try shooting as the barrel hood will be a slightly different size.
When seconds mean the difference between life and death, the police will be minutes away.

You are either SOLVING the problem, or you ARE the problem.
