New Addition To The Family. Thanks Santa!!!
« on: December 23, 2009, 01:33:17 PM »
Sometime over the last year, there was a post here, "Ode To The Snubbie".  I have always liked them, and finally Santa came through!

Taurus M85 Ultra-Lite in .38SPL. It is +P rated, had some Hogue grips put on, (felt better for my larger hands), and it was a deal.
I fondled the S&W and this one for almost 40 minutes.

Although I love S&W, and own 3 S&W semi-autos, the comparison for me was a thicker barrel, reinforced area that houses the extractor, the crane seemed slightly "beefier" and it was $100 cheaper.

Speedloader was a "sample" from a new distributor "Dade Screw Machine Products", local shop threw in the speedloader, and a box of Golden Sabre 125gr +P JHP's, 1/2 off the Hogue grips, free install, and discounted the pistol if paid with cash.  ;)

All for $329.00  ;D

Range report to follow soon, could really use any tips, or recommendations on IWB left handed holsters. (Store didn't have any lefty stuff I liked). :-\

Anyone with experience with this particular pistol, let me know. I did some reviewing and they seem positive.

Nice.....my one complaint about my Ruger snub, I like blued guns better than stainless....

'Nother point, buy the Speer "short barrel" .38 +P ammo, a bit more "ooompfff" for the snubs...

I want one, can I have that one?  PULLEEEEZZZEEE?

Enjoy Tom, you been a good boy this year..... ;)

Obligatory: Thats a terrible gun.... They are prone to explosive malfunctions.... Send it to me immediately for safe keeping! :D

*Stick with the golden sabre's..... they are extraordinary self defense ammo

**Free ammo with a gun purchase..... yes, the glut is over!

I agree wholeheartedly about the GS, however, I'm carrying a .357 Mag.  Speer is doing some good things with short barrel ammo, it's worth a look for 2" and 3" barrels, including your 9mm out of your 26.....

 :)

your mileage, yada, yada...

Would be nice for someone to publish the stats on short barrel balistics.  Most, if not all are based on a 4" barrel or longer.

Nice new addition Tom, haven't seen any of the M85's around here yet.  :-\

BTW, I use the Speer Gold Dots in my snubbie ;D

Ask and you shall receive, I wanted to know also. I had an idea but this is a good source. Seems 2" barrels in 38 is almost 900 to even 1400 fps.
Here's some denim and water jug test results. 2 to 2.5" barrel, different ammo...testing.

Good article. I'm just wondering if there is going to be a huge amount of muzzle flash? :o

eric beat me to the link correction. ;)

I hope to give it a go Saturday with my son who's down until New Year's. Any snubbie owners that can post about excessive muzzle flash?

I have some Winchester LRN, and semi wad cutter 38 regular loads for range/target, that I shoot in my .357, but will have to try some GS, and some other 38 JHP's I have in the safe.

Holster ideas? I tucked it IWB without a holster with a tucked in shirt and it fit my 9:00 hip (lefty) really well.

I also heard removing the strike plate and for lack of a better word; "douching" the "guts" can help remove any milling or machining particulates and may even smooth trigger pull.
