Actually, I do see the attraction. Just not at that price. Maybe Ruger could........
They already have. Its called the bear cat. Looks just like an old Colt cap and ball revolver. Probably the prettiest .22 revolver ever built. They are out of production, but still available.Down side is it is small enough that it is awkward to use if you have large hands. I traded mine and don't regret it, but it is a pretty and sweet shooting revolver.

FQ,

It is important to compare apples to apples ...

Granted, this is a double action, but it can be shot single.

Excellent gun!  I have it in 6" and love it.

Speaking of apples to apples....... ;) Look, hi-cap in a .22 S/A revolver seems silly if it costs either weight or money. I mean a 30 rounder for a 10/22 is fun, but single action? Whats the point? I won't argue that Ruger is the be all and end all since we both know better, but its a real nice pistol that looks the same, shoots well, and even though you have to reload twice as often, it costs $500 less. If you really hate reloading that much, buy two Rugers and you'll still come out ahead. :D

I recently saw a .22 pistol at the local gun store that I thought was interesting. it was an older one, an H&R if I remember right,
it LOOKED like a single action, (Think Heritage arms or Ruger single six ) The main complaint about Single actions for practical use is the slow reloads, this one had a tip out 9 shot cylinder, and it was actually DOUBLE action.
Combined the "Classic" Old west styling with all the improvements of the modern revolver.

I owned one of those, my very first pistol. The thing worked great. It didn't set the world on fire accuracy wise, but it was good enough for armadillos and the occasional squirrel. It was loud, but still a decent, fun shooter.

I did not get to shoot it but that was what I figured from looking it over.
I knew some one on HERE would be familiar with it  ;D

FQ,

Not everything is about weight or capacity.  The number of rounds is just a mater of size makes it work that way.  My choice is based off the fact I have two larger calibers that this is very similar to.  Just as I have several single actions that all feel the same, I have double actions that feel the same.  When I'm hunting rabbit, squirrel  or rats it isn't about having ten rounds, it is about having a gun that is comfortable and I can shoot well.  The 617 fits the bill.  Sure it cost me twice what my Single Six did, but for precision it is well worth it.

That bluing is almost like the old Colt blue......

[squiggly lines and harp music.........ahhhhhh the good old days of bluing........more sqiggly lines and harp music]...........

Oh where was I, ah yes, I like the looks and the extra capacity......just can't throw that much scratch at it.

Someone makes a speedloader for the S&W 10 shot 22.  The guys over at BE forum in the revo thread use them.  Wouldn't be practical for a SA.  It's pretty but an AR and some ammo look even prettier.

I agree with the grips looking awful tacky for the price range.  It'd have to be pretty nice to beat out the S&W .22 double action revolvers.  But it's always nice to see new offerings!  :)
