PHOENIX – Phoenix police Officer Mike Burns had just finished searching a desert area for signs of a 5-year-old girl and the man who had kidnapped her as she played with her sisters on Christmas Day.

No luck. But as Burns drove down a north Phoenix street, he spotted a truck that matched descriptions of the kidnapper's vehicle, and a man and a little girl inside.

When the truck made an abrupt turn and sped off, Burns knew he couldn't let it out of his sight.

"There was no doubt in my mind," Burns told reporters on Saturday, "If he disappears, we may not get her back."

About 10 minutes later, 45-year-old Larry Jon Ladwig was under arrest, and the frightened girl was rescued and taken to a Phoenix police facility that aids young victims of crime, where it was determined she had been molested. The girl was treated and is back home with her family, police Sgt. Andy Hill said.

Ladwig was booked into jail early Saturday on charges of kidnapping, sexual molestation of a child, aggravated assault of a police officer and felony flight. It's unclear whether Ladwig has a lawyer, and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to a request to interview him.

Statistically, Hill said if police don't recover a child abducted by a stranger within the first several hours, "chances are slim of recovering them alive."

"We really did have a Christmas miracle," he said.

The girl was rescued at about 9:30 p.m. Friday, more than seven hours after police believe Ladwig kidnapped her while she was playing outside a Phoenix apartment building.

The Associated Press is not reporting the girl's name because she may be the victim of a sex crime. The AP had named the girl after her abduction Friday.

When Burns' spotted Ladwig's pickup, he gave chase and alerted the force. Officers put spike strips across the road several blocks away that punctured Ladwig's tires, causing him to crash on the roadside.

Ladwig took off on foot but was caught and arrested a block away after a brief struggle during which Hill said he punched an officer in the face.

"It makes you feel good," Burns said of his part in the girl's rescue. "It takes a while to soak in."

Police received the call that the girl had been taken at about 2:15 p.m. An Amber Alert was issued, and authorities began combing the area on foot, by car and with helicopters.

Hill said the child had been playing in a common area at the apartment complex with her two sisters, ages 7 and 9, when a man parked his brown pickup in a nearby parking lot and walked over to them carrying a camera.

He said the man violently pulled down the 7-year-old's pants, took a photo of her, then grabbed the 5-year-old and threw her into the truck through a window.

"That's pretty doggone violent," Hill said. "He's a weapon himself ... (The girl) has got a lot to go through now. She's not unscarred from this, obviously in a number of ways. She's got a long road ahead of her."

After the kidnapping, the 5-year-old's older sister went to a neighbor's apartment and pounded on the door, The Arizona Republic reported. The woman who answered, Donna Reed, said the girl was carrying a ball and appeared to be shaking.

"She said some man just took her little sister," Reed told the newspaper. "She was a nervous wreck."

Reed called 911.

The three sisters live with an aunt, who has legal custody of them, Hill said. The girls' parents live separately out of state.

Do you STILL think they are ALL scum ?

Unfortunately, Tom, then there is this:

http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20322341,00.html

I'll have to look it up, but a few years ago in my town they sent two cops to prison for drug dealing and murder. I don't go to the extreme BM does, but I can tell you from working with prosecutors and judges, the cops aren't always squeaky clean; and neither are the prosecutors and the judges...........But I do have a tendency to be very distrustful of those in authority.......

Full Auto, I understand completely, up here there were 2 separate cases of State cops having sex with minors, and of course the "Whitey Bulger admiration Society" also known as the Boston office of the FBI, and the Mafia Cops,
But they are out numbered by guys like in the link I posted.
The guy above is a Cop, the thugs at Waco were LEO's that's how I see it.
and in the thread about the 2 cops getting shot last week in Ca. BM made a comment that was just plain unacceptable, and I'm no big fan of the Police.
But I want BM to read the above story and then KMA.

Of course we also had the PA State Trooper that murdered his girlfriends soon to be ex-husband.

Tom just got off the phone with my baby sister who God knows never saw the sick s**t  my paternal father was capable of, at this moment she is in tears, and I am so sorry for her husband, seemed like the right time, guess it was really not. You cannot justify any of the sick s**t people do to each other, but I witnessed a bunch of it when I was a toddler. Less than 6 yrs old I watched my ( cough, gag ) dad shove my mother out naked after beating her, into the neighborhood. This kind of stuff makes me so  mad you cannot believe. I could go Charles Bronson in a heartbeat. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Hey there is good and bad in every profession. Most that are not law enforcement do not make it in the paper or are on the third page. To get ratings or sell papers they will crucify law enforcement. I have seen guys just go to crap in law enforcement. How many times have they gone to houses to give death notifications. I have walked into houses that would make you vomit, 2 inches of dog crap as carpet, no food in the fridge, diaper full of crap and has not been changed since who knows. Mom goes out on a stretcher because he used a pair of brass knuckles on her and steel toe boots. Yet when I get to court I am the SOB because I am just picking on him, and she turns on me in the court room. It is a thankless profession. Some wonder why officers become cynical. Heck while you are getting ready to do a death notification someone wants to get snotty with you or complain about something trivial. The neighbors dog pooped in my yard. Sometimes I get cynical because I remember a little girl that had something bad happen to her and to listen to those things haunts me to this day. Or someone wants to tell you how to do your job. I do not go to anyone elses job and tell them how to do it, and if people talked to me like they do now before I was a police officer I would have broke their nose for it. Being a little polite will go a long ways.

I've run in to many who were badge happy A holes, but it's a crap job and I would not want.
The only time the deal with decent folks is at the worst times in their lives, just been robbed, attacked or lost a loved one, the rest of the time it's drunks puking in the cruiser and dealing with thieves rapists, perverts and general scum bags. While the attitude of some offend me, I can see how they come to have it.

If I HAD to do that job I'd last maybe a week then I be in prison.

As a former LEO I really try to not get involved in pissing matches with those who hate people simply because they wear a badge.  But I must admit it does light the fuse on my tampon when they do it.  Are there cops who shouldn't even be crossing guards?  Hell yes.  Just like any other profession.  It burns my ass royally, however, to see a group of dedicated professionals who put their lives on the line daily to do a job that most people couldn't do, either physically or emotionally, painted with a broad brush by some asshat who isn't worthy to carry the officers' extra ammo.

God bless the good, honest, hard-working, selfless MAJORITY that wear the badge and allow us to sleep safely at night.  And screw those who hate them because of what they do for a living.

Rant off.
I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!
