Police arrest two after shooting in Chestnuthill Township

State police arrested two men after witnesses reported shots fired outside a Chestnuthill Township gas station on Sunday evening.

According to State Police at Fern Ridge, one of the men brandished a BB gun and the other responded by pulling out a 9 mm handgun and returning fire. Now one is charged with attempted murder and the other with aggravated assault.

Around 3:40 p.m. Sunday, 19-year-old Justin Campbell, of Effort got into an argument with Kenneth Warren Reddick, 26, also of Effort, outside the Uni-Mart gas station near the corner of Route 115 and Jonas Road in Effort. Witnesses told police that Campbell fired a pistol-style BB gun at Reddick and Reddick fired back with a 9 mm handgun.

Campbell fled the scene in an SUV, but then drove by the Uni-mart and fired several more shots from his BB gun. Police arrested both men near the scene. Reddick will be charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment, according to state police. Campbell will be charged with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and simple assault. Police did not say what started the dispute.

The Uni-mart parking lot was closed for about two hours as more than a dozen state police patrol cars responded to the scene. Police interviewed witnesses and searched the parking lot for evidence before leaving the scene around 5:30 p.m. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.

Two men were handcuffed and taken from the scene in the backs of two of the patrol cars around 5:30 p.m. when police left.

No ambulances were dispatched to the gas station and there were no reported injuries. State police at Fern Ridge are investigating the shooting, but no information was released Sunday night. There was no word from police as to what started the dispute or how the two men were involved.

What I don't understand is that if the BB gunner is being charged with 'terroristic threats', and pulled a gun (would you chance it being a BB gun?) why is an attempted murder being charged on the other fella? Seems to meet the criteria for self defense, according to the article. Must be more here than they are telling.

Seems to me the real question is this. If you have a BB gun and the other guy has a 9mm, what in God's name would make you come back and restart the gun fight? Were you born stupid, or did you strive to get that way?
