Uncataloged, unannounced, 2010 SHOT guns...I know of at least one other Ruger scheduled for SHOT as well, but its still in production prototype...I've shot one and liked it so much I told Ruger to send me the bill...

I am with Badger here. I am hoping they bring out a mini-14/supersized 10-22 .44 mag carbine with 20 rounders. Propietary mags be damned, I will find the money to buy one. One slightly used lobster eating bird dog in trade  anyone? ;D I'm actually serious here, not about the bird dog, even if she did scarf $40 worth of lobster meat (bitch waited until I shelled it too!). I mean about the gun. When I look around the market, I see pretty much anything I want. If you were to give me a buy whatever, but you can't sell it gift certificate, I could find pretty much find anything I wanted. EXCEPT, for a tactical/hunting .44 mag. Ruger used to build one although it was squirrely. If they got that right I would cash the gift certificate in on one tommorow (with LOTS of mags).

I wonder how the market would respond to a "upgraded", US made AK clone?  Say available in 7.62x39 and .223.   The AR (and 1911) seem overly saturated.  Maybe, it could be engineered to keep the general design of the AK but with interchangeability of calibers.

Hmmm.... One very reliable "base" with multiple calibers spanning .22lr to...... oh say .416Ruger?
Will work for ammo

I think we have a comment of the day winner! Think about it. Why another AR? How many do we need? Instead take the AK with the cheap mags and its ability to gobble cheap foriegn mil surplus. Then take US standards, good materials, no BS canted sights or the like, and sell it for around six bills. Not a redesign, just improving whats there. Who better than Ruger? They've never built an original firearm. They just take the classics and make them better, stronger and cheaper, using upgrades to the original prototype. I love them for it and have owned several. Off the top of my head, I've had eight and I liked them all. A Ruger AK. That high pitched buzzing sound is Bill spinning in his grave. ;D

Found these post from Jeff Quinn on the Ruger Forum:

It's not just a polymer frame, but the ejector rod has a built-in laser module, with the battery under the right grip panel. The laser is activated when the hammer is cocked, just as it passes the half-cock notch, and the laser goes off when the hammer drops, greatly saving on the battery life. It uses a proprietary direct-metal contact, so there are no wires showing. Production is scheduled for second quarter 2010, but there are about 20 pre-production models floating around. I really do not care for the Realtree camo finish on the polymer components, but a fake case-hardened look will be offered later, and the finish does go pretty well wth the titanium cylinder, which is offered only on the .45 Colt model. The .357, .44 magnums will have a blued steel cylinder, with stainless offered next year. The model with the birdshead grip has a built-in lanyard loop at the heel of the polymer pistol grip. No Bisley model is planned at this time. I know that traditionalists will cringe, but let's give the plastic Blackhawk II a chance.

What really pi$$es me off, is that Ruger had to submit one for approval to be NY compliant, and Chuck Schumer got wind of the "plastic" revolver, and has already started proceedings to ban "plastic revolvers", just as they did when Glock introduced their polymer-framed pistol years ago. Back then, even though the HK VP70 had been around for awhile with its plastic frame, idiots were hollering about the plastic Glock being able to evade a metal detector. Same thing with the BH II. They do not even acknowledge that a metal detector can detect a single cartridge, let alone the fact that the BH II has a steel inner-barrel and other components! ONLY the frame, grip frame (which are integral in this design), barrel shroud, and the trigger are polymer.

The sixgun really looks pretty cool, but I am contractually forbidden to show a picture until January 4th.

One small criticism: I think that the laser module would have been better placed in the base pin for stability, but it does work well in the ejector rod. The rod is a bit stiffer to work than on a standard Blackhawk, and the ejector stroke is shortened 1/8 inch on the BH II, but it still does its job well. Everybody wants lasers on their guns these days, and Ruger could have just put a section of Picatinny rail on the barrel shroud, but for aesthetic reasons, the module in the ejector looks much better.

Actually, someone suggested a .44 Special Vaquero which doesn't sound bad, and we know how MB likes the .44 Special, maybe that is the one his is buying?

Forgot to add that I got this from Ruger in late September:

Comment / question:

Is Ruger going to produce a single action revolver in .327 Federal Magnum?  I think that this would be a great product.  My suggestion is that you produce one.
Thank you.

You will pardon the incoherence of this post. A PLASTIC BLACKHAWK???!!!!!!!! Look, I love tupperware in Combat handguns where form follows function and aesthetics don't matter. But there is a place for deep blueing and nice wood and that place is in SA revolvers. There is no reason to make a "tacti-cool version of a revolver that hasn't been tactical since the turn of the century. In the name of God, why, why would you want a plastic laser sighted Blackhawk? Rant over.
FQ13 who will quit beating his head against the wall, reconsider the initial decision that drinkinking before noon was ok on new years and just roll with it. But can I please have my .44 mag carbine?
