Napolitano Urges Action on Amnesty in 2010, Falsely Claims Progress in Fighting Illegal Immigration
In an address before the pro-amnesty Center for American Progress (CAP), Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano signaled the Obama administration’s support for legislation that would include amnesty for current illegal aliens and increases in the overall flow of immigration into the U.S. Napolitano also expressed support for improved immigration enforcement — despite actions taken by her department that have dramatically curtailed enforcement.

In her Nov. 13 speech, Napolitano described the administration’s vision of immigration reform as a “three-legged stool.” The legislation must include “a commitment to serious and effective enforcement, improved legal flows for families and workers, and a firm but fair way to deal with those who are already here,” she said.

Acknowledging that previous attempts to enact amnesty for illegal aliens have been hampered by a lack of public confidence that the government would act in any meaningful way to prevent future illegal immigration, Napolitano sought to assure the public that this time things would be different. She asserted that “the security of the Southwest border has been transformed from where it was in 2007.” Furthermore, the transformation has not been limited to the border, she claimed. “[W]e’ve transformed worksite enforcement to truly address the demand side of illegal immigration.”

Based on these claims of improved enforcement, Napolitano urged Congress to move ahead with amnesty for illegal aliens and increases in the admission of both family- and employment-based immigration. “We need Congress to create the legal foundation for bringing the millions of illegal immigrants in this country out of the shadows,” said Napolitano. “We need carefully crafted programs that allow American businesses to hire needed foreign workers,” she continued. “Our immigration system is outdated where families are concerned, and we need to modernize and streamline the laws governing this process.”

While amnesty for illegal aliens and increases in government regulated immigration would not be justified even if the administration actually were enforcing immigration laws as they claim, the facts demonstrate that they are not. In fact, as FAIR has repeatedly pointed out, the Obama administration has systematically weakened all aspects of immigration enforcement, and there is no reason for the public to feel confident that promises of future enforcement would be kept.

America’s borders are anything but secure. By the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) own admission, a mere 894 miles of border or coastline are under “effective control,” out of the total 8,607 miles that the department is charged with protecting. Moreover, DHS has no plans to secure even one additional mile during the current fiscal year.

There has also been dramatic regression in virtually all areas of interior immigration enforcement under Napolitano’s leadership. According to DHS data released on Nov. 18, arrests, indictments and convictions of immigration law violators have all fallen by more than half during 2009. [See sidebar story.]

FAIR takes seriously the threat of a major legislative effort to enact amnesty and immigration increases in 2010. We have already begun to educate the American public about the false claims being made by the administration about its enforcement record and the devastating impact that amnesty and increased immigration would have on the American people. We urge all members and supporters to go to FAIR’s website, www.fairus.org, to sign up for legislative alerts so that you can be prepared to oppose any effort to enact amnesty in 2010.

When Democrats need fresh loyal new voters, they kick legality, Constitutionality, and morality to the curb. After all, they will need all they can get for the mid-term elections.

Current admin, doesn't want to do a damn thing on Illegal Immigration. Neither did Bush, or Clinton, etc,...

How's that border wall comin' along???

The growing number of the Latino voters, have ALL parties trying to appease. Check the demographics. At the current rate Whites AND African Americans (PC), will be the MINORITY in less than a generation.

I can vouch for that here in S. Florida. In 1969, when I was born, we had Mayors and City Council, County Commissioners, etc,....that were names like Gregory, Johnson, Perry, Barnett, Peters,....etc,..

Now? Gonzalez, Cortez, Aguilar, Aristabel,

In 1979, the bumper stickers said "Last American Leaving Miami, Please take the Flag,."

Now, it's on a nationwide scale, and the politicians of BOTH parties, placate, and pander. Even Reagan failed with his amnesty plan.

This countries politicians have had it all wrong for my entire lifetime.

I would not be surprised to see a back lash of violence against them.

from eric's link:

Why not? What do they have to lose?
They’ve already pissed away independents and re-energized conservatives thanks to ObamaCare. Might as well use next year to check as many boxes left on their agenda as they can before they take their beating. Amnesty, cap-and-trade, transferring Gitmo detainees to the U.S.: Pour it on and hope that progressives and Latinos will react by turning out in numbers just high enough to keep the House in Democratic hands. Even if it backfires, how bad can the damage be? They lose 35 seats instead of 30?

I see the pressure cooker hasn't cooled off at all for New Years.

MB's podcast week last week about the Blue Dogs getting booted here is pertinent to this discussion as well as to the prospects of an AWB. If they have in fact sold their souls to the Dem leadership, then there is nothing to hold them back as TW mentioned. They will vote for everything and in return, if they are tossed out of office by the voters, well then there will be a nice cushy job just waiting for them as part of bho's admin. A consulate in Greece for the ones who vote Reid and Pelosi's bidding, and an assignment to Greenland to those who only vote a few times the "right" way.

Another payment will be in the form of party donations and assistance to see if they can help NOT getting thrown out - akorn, SEIU, whatever is needed.

Folks don't understand how hot button an issue immigration is. This is particularly true during a recession. What kind of strange space logic suggests that it is a good idea to have more people competing for fewer jobs? Who wins? Wall street (the GOP base) and ethnic special interest groups (the Dem base). Who loses? Folks like TAB. I fear that this will stir an anti-immirant backlash and promote racism. This is sad as its not their fault. You can't give a nudge and a wink to people to immigrate illegally and then turn on them. The blame should go to those who encouraged it, service industry and other corporations, the Catholic Church and groups like La Raza. I have no real beef with a hard working Guatemalan who wants a better life, I just don't want to have to compete with him. Send him home on my dime and hang the bastards who encouraged him to come. W, McCain, BO, Reagan, Clinton and the list goes on. In the 1870s there was an a group called "The Order of Caucasions For the Extermination of the China Man" (PC was not an issue back then). It was a union group in Ca. that saw jobs lost and wages lowered as a result of Chinese immigrants. The problem was that they focused on Chin Li, and not the guys that payed to bring him here and hired him. I hope we'll be smarter this time. Again, either party that whores it self out to the latino/Chamber of Commerce/Catholic Church on this issue should be tarred and feathered. ( THIS IS NOT CATHOLIC BASHING, its just that the bishops realize who's filling their pews and have made a moral issue out of it. Any other denomination would do the same). Janet (who is from another planet on this issue) will hopefully have a reality check. We don't need the full Tancredo either. Just vigorous enforcement of existing law.

I completely agree with Janet from another planet Napolitano when she says,
Quote
“We need Congress to create the legal foundation for bringing the millions of illegal immigrants in this country out of the shadows.”
We need Congress to move in that direction ot so that these people can receive amnesty for their illegal actions, but so that they can be indentified, and their criiminal asses can be kicked out of MY country.
I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!
