We've certainly covered the idea of making it harder for the badguy to get through the door (just last week, in fact), but this episode was about reaction to multiple bad guys who do get into the house... regardless of whether they ninja themselves under the door, kick it in or just turn the knob....

My favorite all time episode.  Good tactics, loved the book case penetration segment, and really enjoyed the cane/stick segment.  I think you guys are doing a great job with this show.  Thanks for putting it on.

tell me if im wrong but wouldnt the "best defense" be to just lock your doors.  ???

We've actually addressed this previously in another thread. There, I explained:

"There is no "perfect" solution... [this] should be motivation to take the primary step that we were also unable to illustrate properly in the show: reinforcing the exterior of your house to make it as impenetrable as possible. The scene, though anticlimactic, would be a thug repeatedly kicking your front door as your dog barks maniacally and you methodically gather the family and get to the safe room. You then manually activate the alarm and call the police. The sound of the alarm and sirens sends the thug running.

The BEST Defense."

Of course if we did that on the show, it would be pretty damned boring. The scary thing is that most front doors can be kicked in--even when locked--because people fail to reinforce the strike plates.

Stay safe,

Mike

Locks can be picked too (Pretty easily, actually). Or not working right. And every house I've ever seen does have windows. Of course I'm no expert. ;) One thing I'm glad about, is that I have a big, loud German shepherd who lets me know when someone's at the door.
