WOOD!
« on: January 14, 2010, 10:24:56 PM »
 ;)

got some good hardwood while I was in the amazon. enough to build a couple 4 rifle stocks and some scrap fro pistol grips. want to cut the big pieces down to a decent 'blank' size to try and transport back to the states (one piece at a time). any suggestions on width, length? thinking lever gun first. of course the scraps I can finger out myself  ;D .

thanks guys.

oh yeah, I'll bring some scrap cut down to 'grip' size blanks if anyone is interested. (if they aren't taken away by customs that is)

I have a walnut blank I was going to measure for you, but
if you go to this site it will give you an idea of the dimensions of various stock blanks.

thanks, I guess 2" should be good. I'll keep what I shave off for grips. this stuff is pretty heavy, hopefully not too heavy to put on the ass end of a lever gun  ;D

damn, they're proud of those blanks 500.00 dollars! I bought all this for about .70 cents  ;D

Ok, I took some measurements..... it's 2.5" thick and 20" long.

For a lever gun it needs to be at least 16" long X 7" big end X 5" small end.

Hope this helps.

yeah, it helps,
she's 4.5" by 3.5" and 23" long. still think I can do a 'small' big end by playing with the angles etc.. only one way to find out I guess..  thanks.

my only concern is finding trouble with customs. hopefully not. as I said, I bought this wood close to the source and paid less than .70 cents US. good wood too. the stuff that I wanted I can't (shouldn't) get because it is now outlawed. (endangered). but this stuff is nice and red. beautiful

lol  lucky you are not going to Australia

what they do here is  make sure your declare it  and Customs can organise to have it treated  once that as happened  then it can go in to the contrary

having never flown OS   I don't know how it would go to the USA

looks like some very cool timber
