I wonder how many shots it took him to get close.

I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

Probably a few to get dialed in off camera, it sounded as he knew what he was doing. Still a helluva shot. But remember, Military snipers, usually don't get the luxury of a second shot...Let alone in a combat theater of operations where if their discovered they get tortured and punished the worst...

Just a little pressure....

Not knowing how many it took off camera, that first on camera shot was close enough that if he were shooting "center of mass" it would have been a done deal!  Also, I don't care how many it took, because there are a lot of changing factors over that range that make it damn tough no matter how you look at it.

Good math skills and instrumentation, you can actually see the vapor trail on the second shot as it arc's 531 inches above the target, and is so close on the first, and nailed on the second.

I think nowadays you could probably just download an app for your Blackberry or iPhone and punch in all the variables.  Then it spits out your corrections.

A few years back there were supposedly ads out on Bigger Hammer.net for civilian owners of .50 BMG rifles to go to A-stan.

They even have tables, that are on a 3x5 card.  As long as the wind is not a factor, its just a mater of trigger control, good gear and a good spoter.  Most of the guys I know that shoot 1000 yds+, get to teh range well be for 1st light, and are gone before the sun is all the way up.
