another thing that will really help old moonie is he was the guy that let the state workers form a union, we have litterly a entire state work force that does not remember what it was like before that.  He does not want to cut state jobs or state employees pay.  Which maybe fine for some agencys, but agencys like corrections and education, need major overhaul.


I'll give you a perfect example.  A shrink for corrections, makes over 100k more then one that works for the dep of mental health.

Ok so they have to be in the prison right?  nope, state law says they can only talk to them with CCTV.  Where as the shrink for the dep of mental health. has to be in the actually room as the person.


Which job would you choose?( gee let me think)


A corrections officer (AKA prison guard)  makes well north of 60k a year to start, add in OT and its not uncommon to see some one that has been there less then 5 years making over 100k.

Actually I think prison guards are way underpaid...How would you like to be a prison guard, deal with the crap they deal with day in and day out, and only barely make enough money to live in this state. And what is wrong with making a $100k through OT? To make OT you have to be at work all that extra time. The system doesn't have to pay extra for benefits, so there is actually savings through that instead of hiring another body. Now, if we had electric bleachers and the balls to use that, the job would be easier.

Actually OT is generally at Time and a Half, which adds 50% to the salary.  Benefits generally are less then 30%..so a new body would be cheaper.

Can't comment on the 100K+ pay being reasonable or not...just seems high.

here is the deal with OT, its not them working extra hours.  They work 10-12 hour shifts depending on the prison. So on a normal day they get OT.

For a job that only that you only need a GED and no felonys, they are way over paid.  Long story short abotu 15 years ago or so, they some how got hooked up with the CHP pay scale and bennys.
