Hornady is at it again!
« on: January 26, 2010, 08:22:16 PM »
I was just clicking through manufacturer sites to see what was new after last weeks SHOT show and ran across something interesting on Hornady's site. Critical Defense is now coming in 40S&W, .45 ACP, and 12 gauge. I wonder how this will play against the TAP FPD line. Are they moving to this for the civilian market and moving TAP to more of a LEO target audience?

Ammo technology is like golf balls, both have advanced exponentially in all aspects. Accordingly, firearms have advanced like golf clubs.

How many 325yd drives were there in 1955? Now there pretty common.

It's all about the "marketing"....keeping your name at the forefront of the latest greatest thing. I'm sure they want both civilian and LEO/FBI/etc,..

To answer your question: Both. Hornady makes great rounds, they know it, and they know competition is tight.

If the prices came down, it would be great for all of us.

That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

The price as listed on the website seems somewhat on par with every other self defense round out there. The 12 gauge even comes in 10 pack vs the 5 round box for TAP and for a little better price as far as I can see. Also my favorite part is they made a self defense round for .45 ACP that NOT +P... YES!!! My poor Taurus felt like it was being put to it's mechanical maximum trying to handle TAP +P rounds even shooting the slower 230 grain rounds. I might have to consider giving the .40 version a try. Even though I love my Gold Dots and just find it hard to change it up. Might use them in my new M&Pc when I get it just to help augment the shorter barrel loss of velocity and power. Not that there is much loss going on there.

Looking through my A Rifleman mag, seems Hornady is doing some serious good work on long gun ammunition powder.

Go here and watch the vid on the ammo: http://www.americanrifleman.org/Articles.aspx?cid=30
Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.
