best defence mouse guns
« on: January 28, 2010, 12:37:58 PM »
i will have respectfully disagree with mr bane. he stated that any caliber smaller than a 9mm is a mouse gun then he put a 38 special in that category. a 9mm is a .355 and 38 special is .357 . this caliber is largerthan a 9mm. i do not consider it a mouse gun in my book even in a snubnose and with +P and +p+ it makes more than a formidable opponent.

iceman, WELCOME!!!!  Be sure and stop by the new member thread and intriduce yourself.  We're a reasonably well-adjusted family of folks on this forum, and we're glad to have you aboard!!

While I don't disagree with your point above, one must draw the line between "heavier calibers" and "mouse guns" somewhere.  And while I would personally consider my Kel-Tek P11 in 9mm to be more of a mouse gun than my 4-inch S&W Model 15 in .38 special, I'd have to agree with his assessment, based not upon diameter, but upon effectiveness of the round.

Just my $.02, your mileage may vary.

Whatever your opinion, there's plenty of room for you here!!  Again, please stop by the New Member Thread and introduce yourself.  Watch out for the crazy blonde cowgirl, though.  She's apt to hang something in your a$$ when you're not paying attention.   ;D

Interesting, as mouseguns, I thought, related to size and caliber, usually 25, 32, 380...

I have a Kel-Tec P3AT, literally the foundation of a 380 "mousegun". I also have a Walther PPK/S bigger and heavier, but the same caliber, and not in the traditional "mousegun" category.

Here's a good test on size and scope of a mouse gun.

Hmmm....

mouseguns.com has a lot of data and links.

I would not consider the Ruger LCR a "mousegun" but the LCP is....

Welcome iceman, good topic. Thanks for posting. I'm sure more will chime in.

I think your right on the money Tom. I definitely call my Mustang pocket lite .380 a mouse gun, the new KelTec PF9 I just bought to replace it is only slightly larger but far more powerful. So I don't think I would call it a mouse gun.

To me the key is to remember the first rule of a gun fight is to have a gun.

Actually my first rule is to run away if at all possible and avoid a fight.

To me the key is to remember the first rule of a gun fight is to have a gun.

Actually my first rule is to run away if at all possible and avoid a fight.

Rules for a Gunfight
Anonymous
1. Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns.

2. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap - life is expensive.

3. Only hits count. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss.

4. If your shooting stance is good, you're probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly.

5. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral and diagonal movement are preferred.)

6. If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight, bring a long gun and a friend with a long gun.

7. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.

8. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating, reloading, and running.

9. Accuracy is relative: most combat shooting standards will be more dependent on "pucker factor" than the inherent accuracy of the gun. Use a gun that works EVERY TIME. "All skill is in vain when an Angel blows the powder from the flintlock of your musket."

10. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

11. Always cheat, always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.

12. Have a plan.

13. Have a back-up plan, because the first one won't work.

14. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.

15. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.

16. Don't drop your guard.

17. Always tactical load and threat scan 360 degrees.

18. Watch their hands. Hands kill. (In God we trust. Everyone else, keep your hands where I can see them.)

19. Decide to be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH.

20. The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.

21. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

22. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.

23. Your number one option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

24. Do not attend a gun fight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with anything smaller than "4".

25. You can't miss fast enough to win.

I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!

I'm always partial to # 20.
The person who has nothing for which his is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

I don't consider 9MM or 38 SPL. mouse guns. I consider them marginal, but not a mouse gun. .380 is. I upgraded from a mouse gun to a .357 pocket cannon.  ;D
