Saiga AK Range Report Before It Rained...
« on: January 31, 2010, 05:17:51 PM »
Finally had a chance to shakedown the new Saiga AK. It really does shoot good, bad, and ugly ammo.

Wolf 122gr. FMJ
Wolf 124gr Military Classic FMJ
American Eagle 125gr FMJ
Some Czech/Bosnian Surplus "stuff" in plain brown boxes that another shooter let me try, out of his "Spam" can. The primers weren't green or anything so what the heck...

He was shooting a Chinese AK that looked like it had been around the block a time or five....Turned out he is a Vietnam Veteran that was as nice as could be, and I really enjoyed talking to him about AK's.

Accuracy to 1 gallon water jugs, and bowling pins, at 50 + 75 yds was out of the box spot on.  First shot sent a beautiful plume of water and split plastic jug skyward. ;D

I can see how some would like a G2 or performance trigger. It had quite a bit of take up, and the reset seemed long for follow up shots. But as a combat type trigger, as opposed to a performance type, it worked.

Recoil with the Tapco stock was certainly acceptable, but follow up shots took some additional time compared to my Sig556.
Not one issue with feeding or cycling, the brass flew at about 1 or 2 o'clock 15 feet+, it really launched the spent brass.

Anyone who has a "tweaked" trigger on thier AK, please give me a recommandation.  I really enjoyed it.

At the range by myself, so you all lucked out seeing the S*** eating grin I had... ;D

Range was full, many members of the "Black Rifle Society", and even shot a Marlin lever-action 45-70.  :o He said it was like a 12g and he was not kidding. Took the FN9 to smack some bowling pins, love that pistol!!!

Took a pic down the line... Lots O' Guns!!! 8)

Sure am glad these guys an gals will be on "our" side, not very many BHO supporters here, I couldn't find ONE!!!

Blue Helmets on American soil, as a consensus,  with these folks, will be fair game!!! :o

Any and all AK tips and tricks are very much appreciated. If it's possible to make this Saiga "better" it would really be something.

Than it rained.  :-\ Still came home with some ammo, but another great afternoon at the range.

Cool beans, TW.....very cool.
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

I agree that Siaga's aren't bad at all. I have a .308 model myself and it hit what i aim at all the time. As for mounting optics dont use the clamp on scope mount they work loose, instead use the bolt in style. Maybe the recoil is what knocks her loose but I'm tagging pie plates out to 200 yards.
