CZ 75 SP-01
« on: February 03, 2010, 09:44:24 AM »
Hi
I am thinking of adding a full size gun to the ones I already own which are
mostly compacts and a couple of sub-compacts.

After looking around I like the look and feel of the CZ 75 SP-01 series
and was wondering if any one here has any experience with these.

I do like the CZ2075 that I already have.

Thanks
Frank

Great guns but the triggers in DA tend to be a bit rough from the factory. Will smooth up with use. My fav is the Shadow from Ghost Holster. Hammer guns have too many disadvantages for me to use it in USPSA production division, but a great range gun!

It's also a great SD pistol. It has consistently been named one of the best 9mm platforms ever made. Only issue ever noticed was the rear sight was not tight enough in the slide, and would move when fired. CZ made it right and hasn't had a hiccup since.

I have a Phantom which is the 18+1 shot polymer frame.  It has the de-cocker.  I prefer the de-cocker because I can't work the safety with my strong hand thumb and have never found a way to work it with my left thumb conviently.  For young eyes the sights should be good but for my old eyes I will have to have them changed.  The trigger is good+ but not great.  I hope to shoot it in IDPA so I will probably have trigger work and new sights.  Accuracy seems very good but will have to wait to be sure.  Feed and function is 100%.

Thanks for the feedback. I was looking at the SP-01 Phantom but since everything I have is a poly framed gun except for the 44 magnum, I thought I would opt for one steel frame full size gun to add to my collection.

My G19 used to be my nightstand gun until I got the CZ SP-01.  I've got the standard safety version on mine because the tactical wasn't out yet but I'm glad I did.

Thus far I've put over 4k rounds through it and beside a few break in rounds that FTE, it's been flawless.  Along with the 4k rounds of 9mm I've put through it, it's probably also seen another 5k rounds of .22 (Kadet kit is awesome).

The trigger was gritty at first but now it's butter smooth.  Mine also came with night sights and 2 18(but fits 19) round mags.

I haven't changed anything on it and initially considered a trigger job but with all the rounds I've fired, I've gotten very accustomed to the trigger.  The recoil is minimal and as soft shooting as my HK PSP and on a good day it's accuracy rivals my Springfield Trophy Match and Colt Python.

What sold me most on it were the ergonomics.  The grip just melts in your hands and although it's quite heavy, it balances well.  Double and triple taps are easier on this than my G19.

I got it when it first came out for $460.  It seems people are catching on to the CZ name so the prices have gone up.

A shooting buddy of mine was dead set on getting the HK P30 until he shot mine.  He now owns the tactical version (de-cocker) and loves it.

I have been quoted anywhere from 679.95 to 823.99 for the SP-01 tactical.
The only quote on the Phantom was around $600.00

CZ shows a retail now of 764 on the tactical and 681 on the phanthom

SP-01 my best grouping handgun.  I like it for steel challenge.  The heft of it is a liability to start with, but after a hundred or so rounds the weight is, for me beneficial, as the fatique of firing does not set in like on a lighter gun.

I ordered my SP-01 tactical last week and hope to have it before the weekend so that I can take it to the range
to try out.
