Season 2: Episode 6: Parking Lots
« on: February 03, 2010, 05:54:50 PM »
It’s easy to get distracted when walking to or from your car. It’s also one of the easiest ways to fall victim to a criminal attack. Let The Best Defense’s experts show you how to turn self-defense into true self-protection through proactive tactics that will keep your radar turned on and clearly identify you as a “hard target.” You’ll also learn how to integrate these tactics with hard-hitting empty-hand, less-lethal, and lethal weapon skills.

Rob, Mike & Mike another great episode.
I have one question, The last parking lot scenario where the lady draws her pistol and tells the BG to go away I noticed her weak hand was outstreached and her gun was tucked close to her body.

Would it not be better for her weak hand to come back to her pistol in a two handed grip rather than her weak hand being somewhere in front of the muzzle and where the BG might have something to grab?

This episode has got my wife actively thinking about her safety when out by herself.

Thanks for all you all do

The easy answer would be "Keeping the weak hand off the gun leaves it available for gestures or defensive action to protect the gun when shooting isn't necessary against the primary threat or in reaction to another, as yet unseen, threat that may appear from another angle."

The truth is that it was not, to the best of my recollection, scripted... it was just what Robin did intuitively. As for me, I teach to use a one handed ready position with the off hand prepared for other activities whenever a threat is within 2 arms reach or there are blind corners/bystanders within that distance.

i really appreciated this episode.  Whereas my wife wont watch any of my many firearms shows, she will listen to me wwhen i explain stuff to her.  I just hope something never gets lost in translation.

I realy like the penetration demos you guys are doing.  I am really taking this to heart and have realized that I really have nothing in my house that provides good cover.  And on teh reverse, I have to be careful which direction i shoot as my neighbors probably wouldnt like a round in their living room.  I have played this scenraio out as I would have to get to my 17month old daughters room in teh event of a break in while i slept, leaving me clearing a hallway that points right at their house.  And to top it off I am a rightie and clearing that hallway with a long gun like a shotgun would have me clearing to teh right... So i have been practicing left hand shooting.

On a side note, I dont remember Pincus or Janich playing bad guys in season 1... do i just not remember or did you guys decide to play bad guys for fun?

Interesting matchup...Janich with throwing knives vs Pincus and his trusty sidearm.  Imoveable Object vs Unstoppable Force???

Glad the show is working for you, Walk-Av!

Janich and I stepped into roles as good guy and bad guy in order to speed up the production process... but it was kinda fun too! Lots faster for us to just do what we want to show than it is to recruit, train and coach good Good Guys or good Bad Guys to "act". :-)

Another Excellent Episode.

My wife typically watches each episode with me. However, this one really had her attention. I never realized how uncomfortable parking lots are to her.  The empty hand technique was great.  My wife seemed to connect with Teresa, (sp) the guest instructor.  She even wanted to practice the technique.  Never happened before.   You guys really nailed this one. Keep it up.

Thanks! I'm very glad we're hitting the mark. One of the most gratifying things is when we really "reach" wives, girfriends, and daughters. That's what the show is really all about--helping educate and empower EVERYONE to be safer.

Stay safe,

Mike
