It Was A Good Weekend!

I had the weekend off, I added Friday as a vacation day, and I went "to school."

I'm waiting for the tificates to come in the mail, but I have papers in hand that say I am now a Certified NRA Instructor.  I survived three days, tests and putting holes in paper to get my initial instructor certification, and certification in Basic Pistol and Personal Protection In The Home.  Next on the list is Shotgun, Rifle, Refuse To Be A Victim and Personal Protection Outside The Home.

I want the Shotgun and Rifle for the 4-H and FFA kids we work with, and the others because the are of good practical use.

I'm sure other instructors on here can echo the fun this experience is.  Of all my jobs, teaching others is one that is right at the top of my list.  Another great weekend with great people.  What else can anyone ask for ... Did I say that like anything with shooting it doesn't come cheap or without work?  But, it is well worth it!

OH SHOOT (literally)  I forgot to send them my recert in Dec.  I'll have to call them on Weds when we dig out of all this bloddy snow!  I need to add Outside the Home and Shotgun.Rifle eventually.  I have the "Test at Home" Metalic Cartridge Reloading stuff but not quite comfortable enough with the press to finish that one yet.

Good Job, now the hard part, using it.

Another good weekend:

I just spent the final hour and a half of several days work over the last month of preparing awards for our youth shotgun league.  One of the things I do for our FFA chapter is provide NRA awards for the kids that shoot in their league.  I don't do it at the regular shoots, but rather at their banquet which is tomorrow evening.

This fun task means that after Thanksgiving the adviser sends me the scores from the different matches they travel to; over Christmas I wade through knee deep snow to pick up the score sheets at the trap range ... don't ask me why I don't do it in September after they quit shooting; In January I tally scores and order awards; and the night before the banquet I end up getting everything together ... amazing that I can predict this schedule a full year in advance 

Tomorrow is the fun part of giving these awards to the young shooters that earned them.  I have been told that over the last month the kids have been asking the adviser and shooting coach if we're doing it again ... I guess they do enjoy it.

I'm taking my instructor's certification course in 2 weeks. Can't wait!
