CLIMATE SCANDAL "SCIENTIST"
« on: February 07, 2010, 08:52:34 AM »
I thought of killing myself, says climate scandal professor Phil Jones
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article7017922.ece

THE scientist at the center of the “climategate” email scandal has revealed that he was so traumatized by the global backlash against him that he contemplated suicide.

Professor Phil Jones said in an exclusive interview with The Sunday Times that he had thought about killing himself “several times”. He acknowledged similarities to Dr David Kelly, the scientist who committed suicide after being exposed as the source for a BBC report that alleged the government had “sexed up” evidence to justify the invasion of Iraq.

In emails that were hacked into and seized upon by global-warming skeptics before the Copenhagen climate summit in December, Jones appeared to call upon his colleagues to destroy scientific data rather than release it to people intent on discrediting their work monitoring climate change.

Jones, 57, said he was unprepared for the scandal: “I am just a scientist. I have no training in PR or dealing with crises.”

This just breaks up my little heart.  I feel so sorry for him...boo, hoo, hoo.  That article let him get away with calling himself a scientist when he destroys data and squelches intellectual dissent.  I feel so sorry...he "ain't got no" training in PR or how to deal with a crisis.  BOO HOO HOO.  If he needs a place to go to build up his self-esteem and make him feel better about himself to deal with healing those thoughts of suicide I say send his lying ass to Iraq and let him get shot at...that oughta fix his Karma.

Oh wait, I am being insensitive, let's give him a free pass and leave him alone because he has thought about doing himself in....BOO HOO HOO.

FTA; "I am just a scientist. I have no training in PR"

What does that have to do with ethics ? You know, that whole "lying is bad" thing.

Think we can take up a collection of razor blades and pills for him ?

Reminds me of the Roman Emperor Caligula, when on his deathbed - from which he miraculously recovered - discovered that a number of Senators had promised Apollo that they would sacrifice their lives if only their beloved emperor would live. When recovered, Caligula turned to them and basically said - thank you for your offer, Apollo accepted. Why are you still here?

I started to really snark here about Jones, but it's Sunday and I just got home from Church. You all get the point.

A cowardly, weak and dishonorble action (falsifying evidence is the cardinal sin for any academic). A cowardly, weak and dishonorable response as the go to plan (I'll off myself and hurt my friends and family because I'm not man enough to live with the shame and atone for my sin), and an even more cowardly, weak and dishonorable justification "I'm too much of a coward to take the coward's way out". :P
FQ13 who thinks global warming is probably real, but it ain't proven and we need HONEST evidence before we make irrevocable committments one way or the other.
PS As an academic? HTFU and be honest and take your lumps, or get off my obstacle Pyle! People like this disgust me. He's like a traitor in the military, or a crook with a badge.  Its not hard to be a man in academia. There are four basic rules. 1) Tell the truth. Don't falsify or embellish evidence. 2) Always cite your sources. Don't steal someone else's labor. 3) Teach, don't indoctrinate your students. 4) Keep your dick in your pants. Want sex? Find someone your own age. These are not hard rules to follow. Anyone who doesn't is a POS that I would buy beer for the crowd that showed up for their lynching.

You need to remember FQ, that MOST if not all European cultures, as well as Asian ones see suicide as the ONLY acceptable atonement for dishonorable behavior.
A pistol and one bullet would have been quite appropriate.

Still the cowards way out. The only way to honorably make up for a dishonorable act is, to well, make up for it honorably. That means suffering the shame of admitting what you did, taking your lumps for it, and then try making it right as best you can. Do that, and I'll call you a man and be willing to forgive you for whatever you did. Suicide just solves a problem, it sure doesn't redeem you.
FQ13 who takes a different view if it comes to eating your gun if you've got a terminal diagnosis of something slow, painful and expensive.

No pistol! More ammo for the antis. Jump, but please light yourself on fire first - go out getting 10 points for style from the Russian judge.
Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

ll, it looks like Phil Jones has some value after all . . .

Global Warming in Last 15 Years Insignificant, U.K.'s Top Climate Scientist Admits

The embattled ex-head of the research center at the heart of the Climate-gate scandal dropped a bombshell over the weekend, admitting in an interview with the BBC that there has been no global warming over the past 15 years.

The embattled ex-head of the research center at the heart of the Climate-gate scandal dropped a bombshell over the weekend, admitting in an interview with the BBC that there has been no global warming over the past 15 years.

Phil Jones, former head of the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, made a number of eye-popping statements to the BBC's climate reporter on Sunday. Data from CRU, where Jones was the chief scientist, is key evidence behind the claim that the growth of cities (which are warmer than countryside) isn't a factor in global warming and was cited by the U.N.'s climate science body to bolster statements about rapid global warming in recent decades.

Jones's latest statements seemed to contradict the CRU's data.

In response to the question, "do you agree that from 1995 to the present there has been no statistically significant global warming?", Jones said yes, adding that the average increase of 0.12C per year over that time period "is quite close to the significance level. Achieving statistical significance in scientific terms is much more likely for longer periods, and much less likely for shorter periods."

Jones is nevertheless 100% confident that the climate has warmed, he stated, admitting that the Climate-gate scandal has undermined public confidence in science. The scandal has worn down Jones as well: Since the e-mails emerged -- and were subsequently posted online at www.EastAngliaEmails.com -- Jones has stepped down from his position, been forced to admit that he “misjudged” the handling of requests for information, and even acknowledged contemplating suicide.

Jones also allowed for the possibility that the world as a whole was warmer in medieval times than it is today -- a concession that may also undermine theories that global warming is caused by man.

In addition, Jones admitted that an overall lack of organization, and his poor record keeping and office-tidying skills, had contributed to his reluctance to share data with critics, which he regretted.

"To say when you're the record keeper for the globe's temperature that you're not a good record keeper, well, that's going to come back to haunt you for a long, long time," Pat Michaels.of the Cato Institute, a public-policy think tank, told Fox News.

For more information, see the full interview at BBC News."

Path: Looks like another lefty who just wants something to be true soooo badly that he makes stuff up, then decides it's true anyhow because doggone it - he wants it to be true!!
