I hope his free doughnut days are over...

What an idiot...... Wrong temperament for the trade as an LEO, unprofessional, potential abusive use of power, and a gives decent cops a bad image.

Ditto.  I raised my boys to respect police authority, but to not trust the man/woman behind the badge.  Trust is earned.  This reinforces I made the right choice.
Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom.
It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.

???  What do you call a man with an unloaded gun? A VICTIM

Detective Rod Tuason apparently made the remarks in response to a friend's status update, which joked that gun advocates who carry unloaded weapons in plain view as a political statement should start doing so in places such as Oakland, Richmond and East Palo Alto "and not limit themselves to hoity toity cities."
I used to be open minded but my brain kept falling out.

Hey TB!!

I have a question for you.  Do you now, or have you ever, referred to yourself as a FORME Marine?

I didn't think so.

What's important is that this asshat refer to himself as a former cop soon. Just to make a point, I would like to see the NRA lawyers go through this guys files (public record). Find every alleged abuse complaint, every "contempt of cop" charge like assault on a police officer, failure to cooperate or resisting arrest, as well as every perp brought in with so much as a scratch. Forward the above info to their attorney's of record. That ought to generate a couple of dozen appeals alone. Protests are one thing. DAs having to revisit old cases, lawsuits, press about "wrongfully accused", "rougue cop" and "cover up" are another. Maybe a few dirtbags go free. So what? It happens everyday. In this case sending an expensive message seems to be worth it.

I agree with that statment.   Lets see how far you are really willing to go to make that political statement. ( honestly OCing a unload gun, that the crimals know is unloaded is the dumbest thing you can do.)

In a perfect world this guy would get canned on the spot./

In those places smart people carry them concealed and LOADED so they do not want to draw attention.

Don't be to smug here Tom. I played that game, er uh, theoretically someone ressembling me MAY have played that game. ;) Mr. X worked closing shift in suburban DC in Montgomery County Md. and had to take several $k of reciepts to a bank drop box well after dark. The local authorities thought that wasn't a good enough reason to issue a permit. Mr. X carried anyway. However he knew that not matter what the outcome of the shoot, jail time was a real possibility. Worse, just running a red light and the cop deciding to frisk would have had the same outcome. The cops couldn't reasonably be expected to protect me yet they would cheerfully arrest me, err, him, for protecting himself. That's the attitude that breeds disrespect for government and cops in one hell of a hurry. I hope it spreads like wildfire in the UK and Oz. the point is though, that its one thing to pontificate. Its another to slip a .38 in your pocket and know that there is a greater chance that it will put you in jail rather than saving your life. Yet the real possibility it might (my previous boss was killed in a stick up)  said to put it in. There is no right answer here. Just a hard call for what was then a $9 an hour job.

You have to be alive to regret your actions for any extended length of time.
