This week I have been on the road a lot and had the chance to listen to a variety of media - mainstream, public radio, Christian, talk and news only. A big topic has been Minnesota's huge budget deficit. Gov. Pawlenty has been a topic because during his tenure he has dealt with deficits almost every year.
Amazing how even though nearly everyone has blasted the Gov. over the years for his budget cuts and then blamed him when agencies increase fees and schools and cities raise taxes rather than make the cuts, this year people are actually supporting him ... until they realize what they are saying. The talking heads and the thinkers are putting everything in perspective and saying "based on what he has been faced with ..." and "nation wide ..." and "federal gov. ..." and "other states ..."
A big topic yesterday was how in difficult times state govs. don't cut back, but Gov. Pawlenty has done his best to make cuts in the state budget. They would talk about how running up deficits and debt ruins your ability to compete as you come out of difficult times, and that our Gov. is doing his best ... and then the libs realize what they are saying and get quiet.
It is refreshing to see rays of hope ... right up until their thick skulls tell them they are changing sides with their reasoning
