Rep. Patrick Kennedy Retiring from R.I. Seat

WASHINGTON – A Democratic official says Rep. Patrick Kennedy has decided not to seek re-election for his seat representing Rhode Island in the U.S. Congress.

The official spoke to The Associated Press only on the condition that his name not be used because he was not authorized to speak ahead of the official announcement.

The decision by the eight-term congressman comes less than a month after a stunning Republican upset in the race for the Massachusetts Senate seat his late father, Edward Kennedy, held for almost half a century.

Patrick Kennedy has been in and out of treatment for substance abuse since crashing his car outside the U.S Capitol in 2006. Still, he has been comfortably re-elected twice since then, after making mental health care his signature issue in Washington.

I doubt "little ol'" R.I would ever turn into a "Red State", but it's one less Kennedy....regardless...

New England Shake Up Perhaps???
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

The "Dynasty" ended when Teddy died, the rest of them are just people who have the same last name as a Martyred President. With out Teddy working behind the scenes the rest will fall like dominoes. The machine that the Old man and his boys built dominated the politics of southern New England for nearly 60 years, but the new generation will not be able to hold the ground with John Kerry and Barney Frank.

Bobby still has 9 of 11 still above ground so it's possible that one of them could find a job in politics.  Joe has pretty much given up politics but who knows about the rest of them.

Patrick is a fool.  It's amazing how he kept getting elected.

Uncle Teddy's big blue machine, Teddy's passing is in fact a sad thing, Teddy Kennedy was the last of the old time "Party Bosses".
He used cash and patronage to dominate Mass's Federal delegation, just like his old man taught him.
