Encounter with a Merwin-Hulbert
« on: February 13, 2010, 03:28:37 PM »
Last Wednesday. MB talked about the new Merwin-Hulbert pistols modeled on the ones from the 1880's. Well, no sooner had I listened to the podcast on a drive Thursday, but I went into a pawn shop just to see what's on the wall and in the cabinet. Damned if they did not have an original Merwin-Hulbert, s/n 2802. Nickel plated, .38 cal, looked like a 3 or 4" barrel, actually got the mechanism to work. Looks clean and in good shape overall. Did not have the skull cracker on the bottom of the grip though.

The shop had it listed for $995, could probably get it for less than that. Anyone want one?

I had one brought to me in the mid 80's, I had never seen or heard of one, after seeing how it opened and operated I thought it was pretty cool, we did not shoot it and I did not know it only ejected the empties. I did some research for the guy, ( pre internet ) and told him the book said 3 -400 bucks, but would not be surprised if it brought 600 from the right purchaser. Neat design.
