Olympic Biathlon
« on: February 13, 2010, 04:54:07 PM »
I can't believe it!  It is a decent time of day, and I am watching women's biathlon live!  They just said we will see men's tomorrow.

I love watching almost as much as shooting ... wish I could ski so I could give it a try  ::)

It is considered by some the most difficult winter Olympic sport. It would be my choice.  ;D

hehe

this would make it more interesting

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

It is the diffrence of two extremes thats for sure.

One min you have to have your heart pumping at 100% going full out, the next you need to slow your heart rate, and control your breathing to get a clean trigger pull.

its one of the few sports that no one gets into to do biathlon,  they are either shooters that learn how to ski or skiers that learn how to shoot.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

Next best thing to the modern pentathalon, which sadly has been removed from the games. For those unfamiliar, it was riding, running, swiming, shooting and fencing. It was supposed to be a simulation of an officer's (specifically an officer courier's) skills. A very cool sport and one whose decline points to the wussification of western society. Though I guess we cold update it to substitute dirt bikes for horses and mixed martial arts for fencing and make it co-ed. It might get more viewers. ;)

I have read a lot about the sport and listened to the trainers.  They are looking for champion skiers and runners.  They feel they can teach any athlete to shoot, but you can't turn anyone into an extremely fit endurance athlete.

Damn straight. Ask me to shoot and I can compete (though on a local, not near an olympic level). Ask me to cross country ski x kilometers, and they'll find my corpse after the thaw. :-\

but if you were in your mid teens and in decent shape, then one could turn you into a cross country skier.
