Delusions From One Gun Show To Another
« on: February 14, 2010, 07:56:51 AM »
Usually, I go to the Ft. Laud. gun show. Not huge, but lots of varied vendors/dealers and are willing to "haggle" to a degree on some things.
Went to the Palm Beach gun show yesterday. Larger, more vendors, more items, and the prices were a flashback to the panic prices after the Nov. election.

A co-worker had his mind set on a Ruger LCP. Did research, found that 373-XXX prefix pistols were made post recall, and wanted to be sure to get one. Also had $1600 cash for a LMT AR. (None at show, and if they did, they would be more than MSRP).

Several dealers had the LCP listed for $399.00  :o (they were $279-89 at the Ft. Laud show). The two tone models were over $400. Just for giggles I looked at the Kel-Tec's SAME PRICE >:(
The MSRP is only $339.00 (from Ruger).
Kept looking, and found one for $329.00 Target price for my friend was no more than $300, cash with CCW permit in hand.
The offer was made, and the dealer said no. Over $30.  >:(
After going up and down aisles, found one for $315, same offer. SOLD.  Ammo Aguila 50rd box close to $30. Hell NO I said. On-line ammo is cheaper.

I don;t know if it was Palm Beach County, or these sellers, were simply delusional. My Saiga AK was $349 in Ft. Laud. SAME rifle in PB, $559.00 >:(

I did find 7.65x54 Argentine Mauser Mil-Surp, 187gr BTFMJ non-corrosive ammo 20rds. for $8.  (Always get a couple bags at that price). And Some Czech 7.62x39 non-corrosive mil-surp, 122gr. $5 for 20rds.  (didn't get too much).
One mag dealer had Saiga Promags for $24.99 not 10 feet away, another had the same mags for $16.99.
All the AR's were over a thousand. Even a Sig556 $2195 (show special) ??? Even the DPMS Sporticals $895 at Ft. Laud, were $1100 in PB.
Old Mausers, even Moisan-Nagants, were over $300. kinda beat up and very used.

These vendors lacked customer service skills, 99% were not willing to haggle over anything, and I was "disenfranchised" by the days overall exp. To have some 19 year old part-time "helper" behind the table tell me to go find one somewhere else. Little punk.

Sorry for the rant, OBTW, the show was packed, and the folks were buying, I just consider the enlightenment of DRTV, and a little personal initiative and research, have saved me a lot of money.

Happy Valentines Day. :-*

That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Now you know why I shop online TW. I got so screwed before I realized you could "gasp" buy and sell guns on the net. I'm to embarrased to admit how badly I got raped on an M1 carbine, but PB county prices are beyond absurd. Seven times out of ten, its  worth the transfer fee and shipping to mail order. I hate this as I prefer to buy local, but not when buying local means a 20% mark-up. >:(

i've said it before, and I'll say it again.

Gun shows are like strip clubs.  You get to see alot, touch a little, but nothing ever comes home with you.

Amen! Never did see the attraction to silicone Barbies or anorexic models. I prefer my women to look like women. Guess I must be getting old. :-\

I don't bother with shows anymore, not even to look.
People ask me if I intend to go them and I ask them why I should. You can find more online for cheaper and that includes the shipping.
It seems I've been talking people out the gun show by mentioning the cost of shopping online. Plus you don't have to pay to get inside just to see the same stuff over and over again.
Damn shame about the gun shows, I really liked them as a kid when my farther would take me.

when you go to the really big ones, like the reno gun show, you will find deals as well as lots of very hard to find part/mags/ what ever.

Thats the only gun show I've ever bought a gun from a vendor, now guys walking around with signs on thier back, thats another story.
