M&P Pro 9 RIP
« on: February 14, 2010, 11:38:01 AM »
I'm looking for another G19 to back up my old one.  Drive to the gunstore to buy one and see a M&P Pro in 9mm.

Several folks I shoot IDPA with shoot them  and they are very happy with them. SOOO I bite and get it and decide I'll use this for fun and games and save the wear and tear on the Glock.

Go to the range and shoot 150 rounds of Fioochi 130 gr 9 mm. No problem.  Clean and put away.

Bad weather limits shooting till yesterday. Travel to TN to shoot IDPA

First Stage.  One failure to fire.

Second Stage  One failure to fire.

Third Stage  Dead gun.  Trigger is mushy and will not reset.

Total rounds 65 + 150 practice  = 215

I won an MP 9 and had problems but wrote it off to just a lemon.  Now I wonder. Shot some of the Fioochi with a Glock and had no problems.

Traveling over the next couple of days for work so I'll call S&W on Thursday.

Not a happy camper :(

Im hearing things like this on the PRO. Odd on your 9 but again not the first time I've heard this on a PRO. Personally I think the newer made M&Ps aren't up to the same quality as the early issue ones. My 9c was built in November and my 40 was built in late 06. Never had problems with the 40, dang thing is a tank. But I haven't tested the 9c. Call S&W, they will make it right. I have never questioned their service team they are excellent. They will probably rush it back and forth for you to make you happy.

TAB,

Nope, wiped the crud out then applied CLP.
Your right about it needing lube to function. Some agency had a saying of Lubricator or Die in their van.

I would strip it down but I'm just going to let them tell me whats wrong.

My 9c was built in 06. When I bought it I brought it home and was dry firing it when the striker spring broke. 0 live rounds through it, >:( About 200 dry fire strikes. ::) Sent it back to S&W, got it back fixed and have 800+ rounds of all kinds of ammo and 200 or so additional dry fire strikes later it's running smooth. ;D I also have a M&P9 & a M&P45 full-size models and I have had no problems with either, the trigers are a little rough out of the box, but are getting better. :)

Sent my dead trigger M&P Pro 9 back to S&W on the 2/24 and received it back today.

Note in with the pistol CUSTOMER COMPLAINT: FIRING PIN STICKS
                        REPAIRED: REPLACE SPRINGS AS NEEDED

No it wasn't! It was the trigger went dead and would not reset.

Call S&W customer service to find out what was wrong with the pistol

MUZAC.........MUZAC.......MUZAC

Live Human being, "How can I help you?"
Explain the note and ask what was wrong with the pistol.

S&W answer: OH that just a generic code.

Me, OK I can understand that I guess. So what was wrong with the gun?

S&W: They replaced springs as needed

Me: Which springs?

S&W: I wouldn't know.

Me: AGRHHHH!

So I have a pistol that will reset the trigger but to be honest I again have no faith in it. I will try and get to the range sometime this weekend to see if it goes bang. I'm not holding my breath.

The M&P is a very pretty gun.  Sort of like a prom queen.  Just like a prom queen it can be a high maintenance and finicky thing to handle.  My early M&P 9 is awesome and has yet to have an issue in over 8000 rounds.  My newly acquired M&P 9C on the other hand is that finicky princess we all put more time into that she's worth.

I own a lot of different guns, but I carry 1911's and Glocks.  My Glocks have never failed to go bang and I don't have to spend a fortune on them to make sure they do.  I'm sure it has happened, but I can't remember how long it has been since I had to clear a malfunction that wasn't intentionally caused.  My 2nd gen G17 is well worn, blockish and some consider her a bit ugly.  But, for the last 19+ years she has fought like a biker chick!

If I'm just going to look at it, I'll take a prom queen, but for a real fight, I want a biker chick with me every time!

How did MB's grandfather say it? "Don't ever own no gun that don't go bang."  (apologies if I mis-quoted)

Stay Safe,
Scott

Gun Friend of mine has an original M&P 4.0 What I mean by that is that he has sent his in 4 times, about every 15,000 rounds and they replace whatever needs replaced (slide / strikers / whatever ) and send it back pronto!  I think they are reliable enough.  FWIW.

That's an interesting point.  How many rounds before you will feel comfortable using it for self defense?

For me it's 500 rounds. The Glock 19 had one operator induced problem at 17K rounds and one wear problem at 12K.
Never had a problem either the Sig 228 or 239.

I bought the M&P because I was going to do more IDPA and 3 Gun this year. I would never carry it.
