Littering
« on: February 15, 2010, 07:24:49 PM »
O.K. First off I am not some enviro-wacko, but one of my pet peeves is littering. I guess it's from my days in the Boy Scouts and walking up and down roads picking up other peoples trash.

So, I was driving to the store today and some jackass in front of me throws some garbage out the window. What a prick.  >:(

Guess what?

Same jackass is going to the same store as me.  :)  He parks and I get to have a little "chat" with him. I basically read him the riot act about throwing trash out his car window. I really wasn't polite about it and might have caused a bit of a scene. Of course he was being a tuff guy and was going to "kick my a$$" for making it known to everyone around what he did.

With all the nut jobs out there I wasn't too sure I would say anything but I couldn't help myself this time. Maybe he didn't know he's an a$$hole and it was my duty to help him realize that he is. I'm sure he'll keep littering but maybe next time he'll have a cop behind him.

Rant over.

I'm not a wackjob either but....GOOD for YOU!

My wife gets peeved when I bring a trash bag when we walk the beach.  In the course of a mile walk, I usually fill at least one with everyone elses crap.

Nothing riles me up more than going to my favorite secret fishing hole and finding all manner of junk, trash, loose fishing line and other flotsam.  I take with me what I bring with me and you'd never know I was there.  I wish more people were like those of us that give a shit!

Thanks Junkie, keep up the good work!

I hate litter including cigarette butts which seem to be everywhere. There's an intersection here that has thousands of cigirette butts at the curb. People sit at the red light and empty their ashtrays. I don't see trash thrown out of cars often but it's all over too. Not as bad as before desosits on bottles and cans but enough to make you sick of it.

Good on you for reading the guy the riot act. Sadly, he is most likely one of these folks who thinks he is never the asshole, everyone else is.

In Scouts, at the end of every campout, we would form a police line and police the site - everything came up, regardless of whether it was left by us or not. AT first, the adult leaders would assign pushups to the whole troop for every missed item we found. As the boys - and the Troop - matured into a boy-led troop, the boy leaders would designate the pushups for missed stuff.

It worked well, every camp site was cleaner when we left than when we arrived.

The good old days.  ;D

I remember what an embarrassment it was if we missed something.

My dad kicked a customer off of his company's deer lease for throwing cigarette butts out of a deer stand. He did for 3 or 4 days after dad told everyone about littering and even supplied him with an empty coffee can for his butts.  It's just how we were raised. You don't leave anything. GREAT JOB 1911 !!

Raised the same way 1911, pack it in, pack it out, and always with more than we started with. I once saw a convertible ZO-6 Corvette, on the Interstate, Mr. Cool, threw his soda cup out of his $50,000 car, as I pulled along side as he was getting off at the exit, I gave him the "Thumbs Down", he knew what I meant... >:(

Good for you on the riot act.

I hate to leave hulls, brass, or anything out in the field.  But hate it more when my community gets trashed by some scum bags.  I see folks open up there car doors in parking spots and drive throughs and drop trash on the ground.  A few hateful seconds on the horn wakes them up sometimes.  One piece of trash criminally thrown on the ground should get one hour of picking trash up.
