    To Kill an American
    You probably missed this in the rush of news, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper, an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American. 

    So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is . So they would know when they found one. (Good one, mate!!!!)

    "An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish , Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan.

    An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.

    An American is Christian , or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.

    An American is also free to believe in no religion.. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

    An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world.
    The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

    An American is generous.. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.

    When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!

    As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan ..
    The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America 

    Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11 , 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.

    So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo , and Stalin , and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world.. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself . Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American."

     Just a comment on that we Americans do ask for something in return as was stated by Gen. Colin Powell some years ago.

     In the past, We have asked for small plots/areas for us to bury our war dead that helped other countries in time of war gain their freedom. This is noted in many far off lands, far from home and family. We maintain these areas, host countries are not asked for a single penny for this.

     We also ask that we send in teams of professional forensic personel to identify and recover our dead still missing after many decades. Again at no cost to the Host Country.

     Today we no longer bury our dead in foriegn lands. We have the will and means to bring our people Home where they deserve to be. Home with family, friends and greatful Countrymen.

It is better they are home.

That reminds me of when American Soldiers were ordered off French Soil...

In 1966 upon being told that President Charles DeGaulle had taken France out of NATO and that all U.S. Troops must be evacuated off of French soil President Lyndon Johnson mentioned to Secretary of State Dean Rusk that he should ask DeGaulle about the Americans buried in France. Dean implied in his answer that that DeGaulle should not really be asked that in the meeting at which point President Johnson then told Secretary of State Dean Rusk:

"Ask him about the cemeteries Dean!"

That made it into a Presidential Order so he had to ask President DeGaulle.

So at end of the meeting Dean did ask DeGaulle if his order to remove all U.S. troops from French soil also included the 60,000+ soldier buried in France from World War I and World War II.

DeGaulle, embarrassed, got up and left and never answered.

One thing about the French though....They have always been there when they needed us.....



Truer words were never spoken.  Reminds me of the old joke:  Why are all the streets in Paris tree-lined?  So conquering armies can march in the shade.

They USED us to divert British attention during the revolution. You should remember that our first foreign military conflict was the Naval war we had with them, and we MIGHT have had less trouble with the Barbary Pirates if the had not been egged on by France and England.
They have never since been a favorable influence on US foreign policy.

And we pulled their butts out of the fire in WWI and II.  The French have not been our friends for many years, though under Sarkozy, they made a move closer to our side.  At least before Odamna took over.
