The Brady bunch should get right on this..... Guns falling into the wrong hands and all ::)

Quote
The nation’s Homeland Security officers lost nearly 200 guns in bowling alleys, public restrooms, unlocked cars and other unsecure areas, with some ending up in the hands of felons. The problem, outlined in a new federal report, has prompted disciplinary actions and extra training.

Most of the misplaced weapons — including handguns, shotguns and military rifles — were never found. “Most losses occurred because officers did not properly secure firearms,” says the Homeland Security inspector general report.

How do you lose a gun?   I mean WTF, how do you lose a gun?

I can understand some one broke into a car/house/ depot and steal them,  or you are hurt badly( say shot or car wreck) and some one takes it or its left at the scene.   Other then that, I don't understand how one could lose a gun.

What kind of a chucklehead leaves a vehicle unlocked that has a gun inside?  And bowling alleys?  What, did they mistake their guns for bowling shoes and return them to the shoe counter at the end of the night?

I've lost a LOT of things in my life:  money, my virginity (actually I gave that away), my mind, etc, but I have NEVER lost or misplaced a gun.

Barney has one too many tacos at lunch.
Later on, the urge hits.
Barney runs into local bowling alley restroom for quick relief.
Barney drops his pants.
Gun slides out of el cheapo holster next to toilet.
Barney pulls up his pants and fails to notice the missing 30 oz. of weight because he is so focused on the relief.
An hour later, Barney reaches back for his wallet and realizes his heater is gone.
OOOFFF!!!
Barney races back to bowling alley restroom only to find that he is now in deeper doo doo than if he'd have just let the taco go in the car.

Meanwhile......17 year old Freddie is showing of his new gat to his friends out in the parking lot.......

"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

I had a cousin that was a FBI agent for 25 years all under hoovers rain,  he told me more then once, losing your gun was grounds for instant termination.  No chance to retire, no getting put behind a desk.  "give me your badge, and here is your last check."

I think we need to go back to that, it sure would stop these people losing thier weapons.

I wonder how much that cost us?

I'll go you one further.  Hold Barney Fife criminally liable for any crime committed with the weapon he/she "lost".  Almost every state in the union has laws on the books that make allowing a gun to fall into the wrong hands a criminal offense for J.Q. Public.  Why is Barney not held to the same standard?
