CBN Exclusive: Five Muslim Soldiers Arrested at Fort Jackson in South Carolina

CBN News has learned exclusively that five Muslim soldiers at Fort Jackson in South Carolina were arrested just before Christmas. It is unclear whether the men are still in custody. The five were part of the Arabic Translation program at the base.

The men are suspected of trying to poison the food supply at Fort Jackson.

A source with intimate knowledge of the investigation, which is ongoing, told CBN News investigators suspect the "Fort Jackson Five" may have been in contact with the group of five Washington, DC area Muslims that traveled to Pakistan to wage jihad against U.S. troops in December. That group was arrested by Pakistani authorities, also just before Christmas.

Coming as it does on the heels of November's Fort Hood jihadist massacre, this news has major implications.

I think we need to reserve judgement on this one as several of the news sources are saying that there is not any evidence of this actually taking place.  On the other hand, I think we need to get a firmer grip on the fact that we are at war and that the enemy is Radical Islam.  Perhaps, just perhaps we should stop putting Muslims in uniform and allowing them free range within our military. 

In WWII we accepted the fact that some young Japanese Americans wanted to fight our common enemy--Germany.  So, we put together squads of young Japanese Americans and sent them to the European front.  We didn't mix them in with our military in the Pacific Theater.  We didn't put them in charge of "food service" in California.  The results turned out well and the young Japanese Americans acquited themselves with great valor.

This war is different.  I believe if Arab-speaking Muslims wish to assist in our fight, they should be allowed to under extra supervision and in some form of semi-seclusion.

But, we should not lose sight of the fact that their holy book calls for them to take up the sword and slay the infidel.  It just seems to make sense not to put the fox anywhere near the henhouse.  I'm just sayin'...

You are correct CR. 

It seems Muslims have three general paths they may choose to follow.

1.  Forgo "Orthodox" teachings, particularly concerning the domination of the world by Islam and the education aspects and develop a culture that can coexist with others.

2.  Maintain most "Orthodox" teachings but forgo the world domination aspects, but accept a culture what will be "third world".   

3.  Adhere to the strict teachings of the Quoran  and work for the complete conversion or subjugation or destruction of all other cultures.

The majority of Muslims who have sincerely immigrated to the US would tend toward the first group, as do those who remain in their native country but work towards educational and other freedoms.

A young Muslim man in growing up in group two will have a difficult time accepting his future as a scrabble farmer in the rocks someplace in Afghanistan when his religious teachers are filling him with vision of Honor and Glory as a Holly Warrior for Allah.  The promise of his private stock of virgins must have a strong attraction also.  I think we see this in the prolonged wars in those regions.  Rather than hoe the hard stone filled ground, they tend to form small groups of fighters who's goal doesn't seem to win but to perpetuate the Glory of a Holy War.

Seems the young Muslims were foreign recruits and were involved on a "fast-track" program to get them up and running on being "Americanized" so they could complete boot.  See, they all came from one of the Muslim nations after being recruited by Uncle to be translators.  But, since none of them spoke English well enough to complete basic training, they had to go through a pre-training on being American before they could attempt boot.  They were promised a fast-track to citizenship if they managed to complete one day of active duty. (that's right--ONE day)

Now, aside from the recognized need for Arabic/Pashtun/Farsi translators in our Armed Forces, how can anyone justify bringing in potential enemy combatants and putting them in the uniform of our military WITHOUT THOROUGHLY VETTING THE S-O-Bs.  If I were king, heads would roll.

It's just hard to follow the logic here.  Let's see, we aren't understanding the communiques of our enemy, so let's bring in native speakers to translate them for us.  Except the native speakers we have recruited don't speak English.  So, since they don't speak English, how can we ask them if they want death to the infidel?  And if they DO want death to the infidel, how could we trust them to tell us the truth--even if they could understand the question?  Never mind, here're your BDUs soldiers.  Now line up for mess call.  Firearms will be issued at zero-six-thirty.  That is all.   (sheesh)

Could be they were vetting them...sort of   On The Job Vetting....

Might be they were under very close surveillance and that is how they were discovered.

Might be a good plan.   A chance to get good interrupters at best and a way to trap the enemy at worst...and worst isn't all that bad either.

Seems like whole lot easier and safer way would be to take foreign students these countries here in the US who don't want to go home. Make tham the same deal (maybe with stripes after boot) and I'd bet you'd get takers. Plus they'd have four years of background here and speak English.

Have you guys ever stopped to think why there was ever a shortage of translators from islamic countries.  Why didn't we have patriotic American muslims volunteering when they have been staying here by the droves for decades.  When the Shah of Iran fell countless numbers stayed.  Palistinians, Libyans, Egyptians, Ethiopians, Saudies, Kuwaitis, Palistinians,...and others, have lived here in our nation for decades.  Arafat lived in the US for years...worked in the movie biz in California for a bit.  

My point....Why is there a shortage of US Islamic speaking translators?  Think about that one for a minute without immediately making excuses for them.  You do err by considering them to be like your neighbor and your pards you grew up with.

My first contact was with Iranians in the mid-late 70's....I've worked in the oil business since 1980 with heavy and consistent contact with muslims.  The culture is not at all like ours...they enjoy their forays into ours but make no mistake they return home to their culture and draw in the wagons unless they have converted.  When called upon they will refudiate all but islam.  I know several muslim converts...they reinforce this more strongly than even I to beware the muslims in our midsts.

You should study the example of Colonel Muammar al-Gaddafiof Libya as he worked with Libyan Imans in the late 90's.

Keep an eye on this one.  There are other examples that have not been made public due to being politically correct and not wanting to offend the islamic community.

Rastus, you are absolutely accurate in your take on this.  Islamists from the mentioned countries were welcomed and have settled here--but they have not become part of the melting pot that has long made-up America.  Harkening back to WWII again, this country interred Japanese American civilians because we didn't think we could trust them.  But huge numbers of them volunteered to be translators, volunteered to serve in the military and helped us out in a tough spot.

These immigrants don't.

The truth is as has been stated elsewhere:  All Muslims may not be terrorists;  But, so far, all the terrorists have ben Muslim.

I have to disagree with Rastus, The Reason we are short on translators is because Iranian refugees speak Persian, ", Libyans, Egyptians, Ethiopians, Saudies, Kuwaitis, Palistinians," all speak Arabic, or a local language.
Afghans on the other hand speak Urdu, and Farsi.
While those other Nationalities DID volunteer and serve well in Iraq, most are useless for Afghanistan, since the languages differ considerably, Ironically, Arab Al Queda members had the same Language problems that OUR Troops are now facing. (Until they learned some of the language )
