Actually, it IS their granddad's gun. I AM a granddad and I've got a "black" rifle (although it's olivedrab) that is quite similar to my Vietnam weapon. That's one of the reasons I got it. That, and the fact that it's a tack-driver out as far as I can see (which these days is about 25 yards--but that's not the ARs fault). It's a fun gun to shoot.
Ruger's new entrant looks to be one heckuva piece.
My own is a hybred of Colt upper mated to an Armalite lower, and I love it. Haz has a different take on ARs. He's not too fond of 'em. Still, he bought my old carbine off me--just in case.
