Just got a new carry gun, lemme have your opinions!

Worth every penny of what you paid for it! I love the government model I have. Also, We need PICS of the new carry piece. I'd put laser grips on it. Especially since it's a Carry piece.

It sucks, should have bought a Glock. Seriously, the RRI and an AK aer my next "when I get an extra 4 bills" guns. My only real concern about it is that I don't like the sghts. My question to you or Tom is, are they easily replaceable? I'm figuring that the $400 or there abouts price makes a set of $80 sights afforable.

Seems like a good deal to me.  Make sure you put enough of your carry round thru it to make sure it is reliable.  Might cost a bit but it is your carry gun.  Shoot it in IDPA competition also to see how it works under pressure.

I never hooked up with one of the RIAs, although I wanted one. However, MB has talked about them often, and has always had positive things to say about them.

Someone else here mentioned that the Phillipinos who make them had pleanty of experience with them when the 1911s first came out.

BTW, don't seat the "newbie" label. It's used around here as a, well, um, OK, it's a term of endearment, yeah, that's what it is!

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I was lookin into those Crimson Trace grips, but also considering the Lasermax guide rod. Haven't put enough rounds down the pipe on it yet, but I plan to this week.

With a 1911, the laser grips will be better. They're more out of the way. IIRC, the 1911 Lasermax has switches  that look like to me they stick out and may not be compatible with some holsters. I have a Lasermax in my GLOCK 30, and I love it. But for  a 1911, the design of the switch is different. The crimson trace grip also has the advantage of being adjustable.

Great reputation for a more inexpensive piece.  Metalurgy seems up to par with more expensive weapons.  Form, fit, and function are all excellent--though some bits may have a bit of burr.  Parts are interchangeable with other 1911s.  Run a bunch of ammo through to get the feel and make certain everything is worked-in and you should have yourself a real nice piece.  Congrats on a good purchase.  1911s got a lot of use in the Phillipines and those dudes should have a pretty good working knowledge of how to make 'em.

ok, just got the CrimsonTrace grips today, installed and range tested! I LOVE this gun! JB knew what he was doing when he made the 1911, IDPA here I come! (again!) Range report and porn to follow!
