My Naval Gun
« on: February 27, 2010, 09:34:18 PM »
Didn’t know where to put this, so hear it goes.
I have had this cannon since 1961. My Cub Scout Pack used to participate in the reenactments of the Battle of New Orleans at the Chalmette Battle Field on the first Sunday in January. Our district was on the British side. We wear British infantry and we got tired of dying. The only on the British side that didn’t die wear Artillery. One of Dad’s had a wood lath and he turned out the master for the barrel. My Dad took it to Bancroft and Ross which was a foundry in New Orleans and had the barrel cast. Well we never got to us it in any of the reenactments. The Scouts stopped doing the reenactments in the mid 60’s. The barrel was proofed with a pound of powder, it sure jumped. The barrel never had carriage made for it. When I came out of the Navy in 75 I finely got around to building a carriage for my gun. This is the second carriage it has had. It gets shot every New Years and Forth of July. I use ¼ pound charges. It still jumps a good bit, about two feet.

Band-Aids, Too cover your wounds with

Very cool.... I have always wanted something like that to go in the yard.... to make the neighbors wonder a little.

"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

Put it in the front yard and point it at a different neighbor each week!  Gives a new meaning to "An armed society is a polite society"!!!!!  LOL

How cool. Too bad the Scouts gave that up, but a plus for you.

It would make a great conversation piece at the neighborhood crime watch meetings.
