Took up a new hobby today.
« on: March 04, 2010, 01:40:51 PM »
Just had a wonderful experience. I've started shaving with a traditional straight razor. Very relaxing, great way to spend a little time before work. I suspect there may be a few of you who enjoy this old world pleasure as well. If not, give it a try! TONS of great info at straightrazorplace.com. I did pretty good. One little nick on my chin, but that's all. Hopefully no Scarface related nick names in my future!

My granddad used to shave with a straight razor.  Once, when he was 85, he sneezed while shaving and cut clear through his cheek.  Told everybody it was unfair that at his age he suddenly had another little mouth to feed. ;) ;D ;) ;D

I have a couple of beautiful old German steel straights--one with an ivory handle.  Keeping them honed and stropped is more work than I enjoy.  But, I agree that it is a relaxing shave.  I have an old fashioned barbar that still does that and I enjoy a "professional" shave on occasion.  Good luck with your straight.

On my wedding day, I went to the Barber Shop for a shave, well, it was a great experience. The gentleman with the razor, was,...well, lets just say,......GAY.(not that there's anything wrong with that),... ::) But you really can shave a balloon with a straight razor, if your trained and practice, He did, and it was a great shave.

Plus it's a great back-up SD weapon,.... ::)

As CR stated, having a pro shave, hot towel, face tonic, get the nose and ear hairs, etc,.... reminds me of the old Western Movies, and from time to time is well worth it.

I guess wanting to see a  posting of some straight razor porn is strange????  ;)

My doc won't let me shave with anything but an electric.  Since my heart went south she says if I cut myself, since I take Coumadin, I could easily bleed to death.

I'd prefer to avoid that.

I have always thought about getting a Traditional Turkish Shave

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

I'm not going to say anything about a mustache riding competition.
Oops. I just did. I'm off to the corner.
