Ordered a Ruger LCP
« on: March 04, 2010, 02:02:51 PM »
I finally acted on MB's advice and ordered up a Ruger LCP.  While I'm in a job transition I picked up a part-time job at a local gun shop.  Ruger has a program for gun shop employees to purchase one gun a year below dealer cost but you have to order it from the factory.  It should come in about three weeks.  I'm going to pick up a wallet holster for it, too.  A local guy makes a wallet holster that you can fire the LCP without taking it out of the holster.

I figured it was about time to carry at all possible times.

Good for you, you will enjoy it.

One suggestion - go for a pocket holster that covers the trigger. I mean, seriously, something like the Desanti Nemesis. The LCP does not have a safety, although it does have a pretty good trigger pull on it. There is too much risk of leaving the trigger exposed to be able to shoot through the holster. It's safer to use a Nemesis or something similar.

Love my LCP and I am sure you will too. Enjoy. Practice. Enjoy some more.

The LCP has been a great companion of mine since the day I got it.  Small, simple and easily concealed.  It will serve you well also.

I agree with Pathfinder though.  Make sure the pocket holster covers the trigger or you could have a much more exciting day then you planned.

With the current state of affairs in CA, I don't foresee the LCP ever getting approved for sale here. Although, somehow the Kahr 380 has been approved. It costs more than the Ruger, but may get more attention from me when it comes to filling the pocket-pistol role. In CA, one of the requirement for new guns to be approved is that they have a magazine safety. Does anyone know if this gun has that, or have they found a loophole?

Mine fires with the mag removed.

Sorry.

I moved out of CA 20 years ago because it was too scary then.  I can only imagine what you have to deal with now.

Hang in there!

Congrats.

A note though...

Doesnt the NFA regulate guns that can be fired while still in a wallet holster?  Isn't that an AOW or something?

Congrats. I use the Nemesis Holster for my P3AT Kel-Tec, except for the slide lock, they are practically identical.

This holster covers the trigger, and looks more like a wallet, whether in my front or back pocket. The mag extensions are really great (for both pistols), especially if you have larger hands.

They (both) like lube, and a little "break-in" with a variety of ammo, is always good.

Co-worker just picked one up two weeks ago, (LCP), and with Cor-Bon, or Speer GD's, it's a great "leetle" gun to have.

Even though Ruger copied the Kel-Tec....

Not positive, but I thought it was a belt mounted rotating holster, enabling it to be fired without a draw.

Seems a holster that allowed you to draw the whole holster and fire would be no more "dangerous" than the pistol being in the pocket with no holster.

But what seems logical many times has little relation to what is law.
