Thing is, politics aside, Dan seems like a pretty cool guy. After he left CBS and started doing interviews, he seems like a smart, funny as hell, and sarcastic good ole' boy who was happy to take the tie off. Hell, he brought a spitoon and a bag of Redman on Letterman and forced Dave to take a chew during the interview. It was hilarious to everyone not named David Letterman.
It was sort of like Bob Dole after the '96 election. All of a sudden this whipsmart and funny guy appeared. Where had he been? The Dole who did viagra commercials could have kicked Clinton's ass. Yet het he, like Rather, just played the role till they retired and said scew it. Its a shame as the country would have been better off if they'd both just been themselves.

So, you're OK with the whole made up documents thing? Of course you are, it was against your hated Bush so how bad could it really have been, huh?
He didn't retire, he was pushed out for fraudulently and knowingly putting something on air some that was fake. He knew it, but wanted it to be true so badly that he went ahead with it anyhow. He may be just another "good ol' Texas boy" to you. To a lot of us, he was in bed with the lestist/statists and loved his position of power so much that he was willing to lie for it.
At some point, FQ, you need to see people for who - and what - they are through their substantive actions. Lyndon Johnson was a personable good ol' Texas boy too, but I wouldn't have trusted him as far as I could have thrown him. Same with Rather. And like Hanoi Jane, it is highly doubtful he can ever recover his reputation, no matter how much chaw he makes Letterman take.
