Sig Sauer E2 Grip System

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience shooting the new Enhanced Ergonomics or "E2" Sig P226?

How does the new grip system compare to the regular ones?

Since Sig won't release the parts for quite a while is the new grip system worth buying a gun to get them?

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I have one of these now.

If you have hands on the smaller side and really like Sig, it is an excellent solution.  Not only did they make the grip more user friendly, they reduced the weight of the slide.

Overall it fires, functions and groups like a Sig Classic Line Pistol.  It is just more comfortable to shoot.

I've got a couple of questions that I think would benefit all.

Does it use the same mags as the standard P226 series?
Does it use the same parts, other than grip?
Does it use the same slide assembly?  Can you interchange a slide from another 226?

Yes,  Same mags.  Came with 3, 15 round mags (9mm) and my 15, 18 and 20 round MecGar mags fit and function perfectly.  It even worked with my old 15 round stainless zipper back mags.  The 15 and 18 are flush fitting.  I took a file to the grips to create a bit of a mag well as these grips reach slightly below the frame.

The hammer strut, mainspring, and mainspring saddle are all different from my Epping guns.  The frame is also milled differently at the point where the hammer strut passes through the frame to meet up with the hammer to create clearance for the contoured grips.  The mainspring is slightly longer than the old German springs and slightly shorter than the newer Epping springs.  Only by a coil or two but I suspect that would change things.

The slide is different only because they have milled a lot of the excess weight out of it.  Otherwise it's pretty much the same as any of the other stainless steel slides.  I pulled the slide off of my P226-9-Elite and it fit the E2 frame, but this pairing would need some fitting at the breech point lock up.  The E2 slide fit right on my older German and my Epping guns without a problem.  They locked up and function checked properly.

It came with a plastic spring guide rod which I tossed in favor of a Bedair stainless steel guide rod for the p226/220 pistols.

I spent the afternoon on the range with it and it has eaten 1500 rounds without a problem.

Sights are the standard SigLite Night Sights.  I have a set of XS Big Dot sights on the way.

The trigger had the usual Epping gritty feel so I took a file and stone to the internals to smooth them out.  I have not lightened the pull or break weights yet.  Probably won't since it is a working gun.

Exeter, couple towns over  ;D If I remember right, the Academy may be in Epping, Sig could not work out a deal with the Exeter Club. but the factory is over on Rt 27 in Exeter.  
But I lived in Exeter for 3 years, on Rt 27, and I've had a couple interviews there over the years.

The Sig Sauer Academy is in Epping, NH

Small towns in NH tend to bleed together for me.
