How low can Pelosi and the Dems go
« on: March 16, 2010, 04:11:06 PM »
Democratic leaders are considering perhaps their most gutless move yet: a bill with unpopularity matched only by its high cost could become law without even requiring House members to vote for it!

The so-called "Slaughter Scheme" - named after the House Rules Committee Chairman Louise Slaughter - is an explicit acknowledgement of the political toxicity of H.R. 3590's health care takeover bill. Speaker Pelosi confirmed this point, saying "Nobody wants to vote for the Senate bill."

Several leading newspapers, such as The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and Cincinnati Enquirer have also criticized the "Slaughter Solution" and other back-handed means of expediting Obama's health care plan. A McClatchy editorial today stated, "sing such a dicey procedure to enact President Barack Obama's [health care initiative] - the most far-reaching social policy change in decades - could inflame a public that's already annoyed at the legislation's tortured path and disgusted with Congress."

It's no surprise that "nobody wants to vote for the Senate bill," considering its enormous cost, corrupt backroom deals, massive tax hikes and severe Medicare cuts. No one wants to be on the record supporting such an awful piece of legislation.
