Concealed Carry Probolem...
« on: January 11, 2008, 12:49:08 PM »
I am a new concealed carry permit holder my problem is that my job has a policy against weapons.  They do not have any signs posted around the office, so anyone else (customers) could be carrying.  I have invested time and money into a deep concealment shirt from 5.11.  Great product BTW.  My problem is that I am willing to breaking the rules, and it is very possible that I may some day get fired for protecting myself and others.  My problem is that I have not been able to find anything that says if I should get caught with my CCW, could the company also file criminal charges against me?  I have no problems with losing my job for what i strongly believe in, however going to jail and possably lossing that same right is a diffrent story.

If anyone knows where i can start looking for answers I would be greatful.

If  there are no signs, That would make it an employment policy and since the Supreme court ruled that Police do not have a responsibility to protect any individual, I don't see how the company can do more than have you escorted off the property.
My company has a similar policy, I have been complying with it because in the machine shop where I work there are enough cover and expediant weapons that I'm not concerned, However, I usually walk to work and after a serious look at potential threats, I think I may be in more danger from dogs and Bears ( saw one right outside the window last fall) unfortunatly none of my current pistols are small enough for DEEP concealment. My current solution is to carry a boot clip equipped folding knife, should give me some chance with dogs and if I run into a bear I can throw poop at it, I know where I'll be able to find THAT.

As Hazcat hinted, it depends on the state. In NE with the mall shootings, the law says if the place is posted and you carry, then that is a crime (misdemeanor or felony I don't know). Here in ND, all they could do is fire you (which is bad enough if jobs are thin) and have you escorted from the premises. I have no clue how the company could get the prosecutor to file criminal charges against you unless they lied and claimed you drew the weapon on the company personnel. Or if there is a provision in the law, such as in ND, where you can't carry in specific places - churches, sporting events, schools - all the gun free killing zones.

I actually have a full sized Taurus 92...the deep cover shirt holds it and several clips...the thing rocks really.

I am in Oklahoma, i do know there are some places you can not carry by law, but they are court houses schools stuff like that.

I have carried a knife for years, and i have carried one every day that I have worked at this company, and no one has ever said anything about the knife so i left well enough alone, until now.  I will soon be a NRA certified shooting instructor, and also a CCW instructor...have to walk the walk, you know?

I checked and my church is cool with CCW, but I go to a contemporary service which is held on a college campus...screwed again.  but the church is building a new building so when it is finished my church will be a lot safer too.
